Pointer Can't Shoot

There seem to be a number of teams tanking this year. If Sampson can find a spot on an NBA roster, there is no reason to believe Pointer can't. I cannot believe I am writing this, but that is the reality of the current NBA with expanded rosters and diminishing skill levels.

Pointer can shoot. He just can't do it from distance. He has been very good from 15ft in.

Executing anything in the NBA is more difficult. It's hard to figure out who will make it and who won't, even for the experts. People wrote off Charles BArkley's chances and he became a superstar. By the same token Jerome Lane was billed as the next Barkley but washed out. Scott May was one of the best college players I ever saw, but he couldnt make it as a pro. So on and so on.

Every NBA GM either has a 100 million dollar player or is hopping to get one. The other players on their rosters are there to play defense , and get the ball to the superstar on offense. Which is why I would not be surprised if Pointer makes a roster , while Harrison, who I feel is a better college player, does not.

Good call on Scott May. One of the most complete college players ever, and just an OK pro. Seven seasons, and only 2 or maybe 3 in double figures. However, I do think the scouts usually get it right. You just have to check first round picks vs. later round (now only 2nd round) picks to see which players stuck. Guaranteed money factors in, but while teams blow it sometimes (Larue Martin, Sam Bowie over Jordan), they get it right most of the time.

As for Dom, he probably doesn't get drafted. His sick athleticism will get him invited to a camp, especially if he goes to combines and showcases what you can't teach.

Neither could Rodman or Oakley and they made it! Why not Sir Dom?

Any SJU fans would love for Dom to beat the odds. Players like Barkley, Rodman and Oakley were unique rebounding forwards and much bulkier. If Dom were not 6'5 and only 190ibs, sure but I doubt he grows and his biggest assets of jumping and quickness could suffer if he gains 30 lbs. I think he will have a long career overseas, especially if he gets to play in Italy or China.

Good to see that Charles Barkley has joined our board, no analytics here. ;)

PS hope you all saw Olberman's response to Barkley. Charles is an idiot. Great player and highly entertaining but an idiot just the same.

No didn't see the response but not interested in anything that pompous, conceited, gasbag has to say.

I'm sure that's an unbiased Crimson Tide opinion. ;)
