Please Say Some Prayers For Coach Jack Kaiser

Jack was a great guy and a gentleman who kept his word. When I was at St Johns on student government, Jack approached us and asked if we could assist in getting more students involved in coming to games. And. back then, then the team was good……. Davis, Searcy Schaefer etc. He told us if we could get students to purchase a certain number of season tickets we could have any seat location we wanted in Alumni Hall ( for new bees that was Carnessecca Arena) Well we got hundreds of kids to buy them and true to his word, Jack gave me 4 4th row court side seats right behind the St. John’s bench that my family and I enjoyed for almost 35 years.

I remember speaking with him at Acquista Trattoria in the early part of the 2016-17 season before a game. Just a kind, upbeat, intelligent man who at the age of 90 had the energy of someone much younger. My thoughts and prayers are with him and his family.

Hearing of Jack Kaiser’s illness made me think of Jack being a student at the Brooklyn,I can’t call it a campus but more like a couple of buildings, in the late forties. SJU must have had a couple of thousand male students and among his classmates was a group of young men who had quite an effect on NYC basketball.

Coach Frank McGuire was also there as well as baseball player Mario Cuomo. Quite an outstanding group and I am sure there were others who I have left out.
