Isnt it enough that we have to suffer from the curse of changing the nickname from Redmen to Red Storm? Why do they insist on adding to the problems with the curse of the Black uniforms? Burn them please!!!

There's no curse. We just need to play better. I say keep wearing them until we get on a roll and then we can stop talking about the black unis.

I think most sports fans are somewhat superstitious.
Don,t shave when you are winning....same motions before batting,....sit in the same seat as long as your winning....athletes have a million of these myths and routines.
Do I believe in curses....absolutely not!...don't be silly..nonsense...like the Boston Red Sox curse for decades after trading Babe Ruth..
Logical Conclusion
Just don't wear the black uniforms..they can't win.

Anyone know our record when wearing black-this season and any others?

 This is like Groundhog Day.

I believe we are 1-9 in the black uniforms. But that is irrelevent. We haven't won in black because we have not been a good team in the last few years. Couple that with the fact that we wear them on the road, where we've had little success of late, and it explains the record.

We beat Sout Florida while wearing them last year because...wait for it...WE WERE THE BETTER TEAM!

i believe we wore the black uniforms against the fordham loss and clearly we were a better team than them last season.

We were at home and the seniors wanted a win in the black uniforms. We've had several road wins in the last two years, but always in red.

If they want to end the season fast, just wear black against Pitt on tuesday AND yes I do believe in curses :)

I didn't watch the game because when I saw us wearing black I knew the game was over.

Time to retire the black...not because they are bad luck, but simply because it was a bad idea that was a waste of time from a program that was in the basement pretending to be in the penthouse.

Adding a black uni is purely a marketing thing to sell more jerseys to kids who already have your jersey. Let's face it, not too many kids are wearing our red and whites to begin with, and they definitely aren't buying up the black!

Save the third uni for the Dukes of the world. For us and where we are, it is just a dumb idea. Plus, we look bad in black. Red or white only, please.

How is it a marketing thing when the black jerseys have never been made for retail. Sorry but that idea is blown up because they have never tried to capitalize on it. Heck at least if they did it would drive more $ to the program.

Pretty much every school has a third jerseys of some choice, not just Duke.

You misread my point. Black jerseys are about marketing. I didn't say that is why we did it. My point is they did it for no reason at all. This came from a losing program that announced a points system as they played in front of a half empty arena!

Yes other schools now do it, but why do you think Duke first did it?

People here know I'm on record with liking the black jerseys. Kids these days like black. Also I'm a merch person so why not try and monetize it (something we haven't done)

Still talking about the point system? It was done at the right time actually. If they did it after we became good it would look 100 times worse and people would have complained even more. It hasn't had much effect either way, oh and the person who spearheaded it was just fired for scalping tickets.

I'm no expert but the black jerseys aren't going anywhere. And pretty soon our W/L record in black will be a funny afterthought.

I really don't care if they wear hot pink, to be honest with you. I just want a winning program that stands at the top of the BE each year.

I'm not a fan of the black unis, but it also isn't a big deal to me. I'll gladly watch them win wearing black.

HOw could say we were not a good team last year. THE FIRST TIME WE WORE BLACK WAS AGAINST FORDHAM LAST YEAR, WE MAY HAVE GONE ALL THE WAY IF KENNEDY DID NOT GET HURT LAST YEAR . WITH THAT TEAM WE LOST TO A TEAM THAT ONLY WON 4 GAMES ALL YEAR. IF THAT DOESN'T PROVE THE POINT THAT SOME PEOPLE HAVE SUPERSTITIONS,THEN LET ME REMIND YOU OF THE BEST COACH AT ALL TIME JOHN WOODEN,WHO WOULD NOT CALL THE FIRST TIMEOUT DUE TO A SUPERSTITION AND LOU WITH HIS SWEATER AND BLUE BUTTON SHIRTS,LAPCHICK WITH THE WATER COOLERS

Superstitions are cute. I have some myself. But in reality, they neither add not take away anything from the bottom line.

EDIT: I should qualify that. If one's superstition puts them in a better frame of mind as far as confidence, then in does have some marginal benefit. Whenever I have a difficult task, such as a big test, I will wear something that I feel very confident in. Feeling good helps to boost my confidence. But "power tie" isn't going to make me smarter.
