Players Declaring for NBA

Just for perspective. This is 233 "early entrants" (meaning it does not include seniors).

The NBA draft is two rounds. That means, each year, just 60 kids get drafted. Some of them are foreign prospects. Further, many of the 2nd round picks will be relegated to the D-League.

So, of those 233 early entrants, maybe 15-20 will be drafted and actually play in the NBA. The rest will watch the NCAA tournament, in the wee-hours of the morning, from their overseas hotel room. Perhaps it's the right decision for some, but for others....not so glamorous.

NBA needs more rounds. Similar to NHL. They should allow players to be drafted and still go to college. Teams own rights. In addition as they continue to boost the G League to serve as a legit minor league operation it can sustain a deeper draft.

Justin Simon and Shamorie Ponds the St. John’s guys. No Mustapha Heron, who was pictured at today’s team workout #sjubb

I wonder in the case of Ponds and Simon what is the feedback from other athletes who gave up their senior year to play in some foreign country for money.
Do they end up wishing they had stayed in school or are they glad they left?

I think Simon will graduate and is ready to get paid to play. Ponds wanted to go last year and his father talked him out of it. I think both will have no regrets.
