Players Database on right side of screen

My apologies for not recalling who is building this, but on right hand side of my screen I've been seeing a Players database.  It's really cool and seemingly a labor of love... Some great pics of individual players going back decades...

I tried to find the main page for all, but couldn't (assuming not available yet).  Anyway, saw a player I did not recall... Lasard Duren so I clicked on his name.

After that, I "Googled" him, as I believe he was a walk-on.... Sadly, arrested in 2018 for a very unique online dating site scam

What's kind of crazy is I have zero recollection of this guy and he was on the team when I was a student and I was pretty close to the team.

I do love the right rail with the players.  Seeing some names and how few games they played does make me chuckle a bit being they were so often mentioned on the site.

Thanks for noticing!

espken has done most of the work on this for over 20 years!  There were a couple other members who helped out in the early days but espken is the primary author.

When the site was hosed about 10 years ago and I had to rebuild it on a new platform, the original databases including the players were all custom code jobs, all had to be recoded.  espken has been updating the player info in recent years.

THAT SAID ANY member fan level or higher can add media to a listing.  This is for example if you had a memorable picture taken with a player during their playing days or even recent and wanted it as sort of a more permanent record than a forum post or personal library photo.  Just hit the "Add Media" button.  You can also create a list of your favorite players and you can see their teammates by clicking the Related Listings tab.  There is a Compare feature as well.  This is especially useful in the recruits database but that is not currently available to members.

The "Add Media" by other members, would be most appreciated for the listings that don't have a primary photo.

RedStormNC, the players database has been a part of the site for atleast 15 years. With the reconstruction of the site over the years, its been shifted around but always lurking. It is a work in progress, as you can imagine, plugging in information of the old and adding the new. Almost 700 players have donned the Red and White and we are trying to get as much info as we can for each. Paul has done some cool things aside from the photos tab of each player, there is also a video tab. Hence Moose's excitement for Dele Coker highlight video last week. /media/kunena/emoticons/smile.png

Like the feature. Would like to see the years they played. Two players that I haven't seen are Allen from Darien HS in Fairfield County and Bolinger from NJ in the mid 70's. My friend went to school with his older brother at Western Kentucky and I took them down for a game. Ended up at his apartment. 4/5 blocks from St John's with his teammates but can't remember who they were.

What I find really interesting is all the Jewish-sounding names I've seen who played for a huge Catholic school. But I guess that's what basketball was in the early years.

On a side note, the right nav is a good location for this. I knew we had one, but for some reason I thought is was destroyed during one of the times the servers went kaput. (That did happen, right? Hopefully I'm not imagining the several times I thought Paul had to migrate to a new host.)

Great work everyone! I check out the section every time I come to the site and even load a page, because it shuffles through different players. Definitely fun to take a trip down memory lane and remember some of our favorites of years past.

the years played is included but not all of the listing have it.  You need to expand the statistical information areas.  See screenshot:

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

LJSA, not surprising in our early days, St. John's being a Brooklyn based school back then, and BB being a city game, and Bklyn having a heavy Jewish population, we had lots of Jewish players.

St. John's being Catholic aside, the more elite schools in NYC, like Columbia and NYU (very early on) if you can beleive it, had unofficial quotas on Jewish students, and St. John's was a nice second choice for undergrad and grad/Law School for working class Jewish kids who wanted to, or had to live at home; our tuition was also more affordable.

In the forties and fifties Jews were great basketball players.

St. Johns had HY and Daley Gotkin,  Max Zaslofsky,  Harry Boykoff.
CCNY won the NIT and NCAA with a host of Jewish players.
NYU was sneakedly called NYJew.  Dolphin Schayes.
