Time for that good ole game of Player X vs. Player Y. It's been awhile. Both players are the same height and close enough in weight based on published numbers.

Scout's comment- 'continues to show off his elite leaping abilities, and a nice little midrange jumper. What scouts want to see more of is his 3-point shot. He's only taken three all season, and hasn't made one yet'

Grant from Syracuse. I think he is more athletic than Sampson and the assist difference says something. Do you think if Jakarr stays one more year, he can get to the same place?

I was going to say Jakarr and Grant as well.

Grant did hit 40% from three as a frosh (6/15). I know the one year age difference doesn't seem like much, but a year from now--if Grant was not in the NBA--he would be averaging 18-20 and 8 and shooting 3-4 treys a game. He might be the only player in the country I think is a better athlete than Sampson.

Truth is he is still kind of raw, but he had some dazzling drives and passes in the tournament last year. His handle and passing ability are far better than Sampson.

Correct
X is Grant and Y is Karr

The shooting % is misleading. Grant is a much better shooter while Sampson's % is inflated because of his many dunks.
Also, Grant will share the ball better than Sampson and has a better handle. Sampson needs another year under his belt.

I don't know if there is that big of a difference in dunks vs jumpshots. Karr shoots plenty and I don't think Grant shoots as many as you allude to. Then again I don't watch every Cuse game with the intent that I watch SJU games. And the point I was getting at was not whether he needs another year. He does without question. Its just interesting how Karr pretty much offers the same with the exception of ball handling and passing and throw in Grant is a year younger and he's where he is on the list.

I don't think the one year of age would be that big of a deal if Sampson was as good as Grant. Maybe Grant would go mid first round and Sampson later first round.

he en times that manvnext t

If he tried that ten more times he would foul 8 It was just .lucky timing Not saying it was not a nice block .but over Ten attempts my opinion does not get the same results

Jakkar is such a good dunker...I can't believe they don't have a couple alley-oop plays drawn up for him every game.

.Yes they should. think Jakarr is quicker than Grant Not sure if Grant drafts ahead of Jakarr Like Jarkarr's game better but it helps Grant that he will be on a top five team

Grant's genes separate Grant from Jakarr.

The kid has a pro body and a father and uncle whose been there before.

Jakarr looks to have put on no weight from last year and his game simply has just taken baby steps coming off a ROTY.

I watched the SF game and thought to myself sadly, "Wow, all Jakarr can do is dunk".

All the potential in the world. But his fascination with the outside shot is stunting his development
IMO. Nothing wrong with working on that part of his game.

But Jakarr has the height and leaping ability to be someone that you throw the ball down into the paint and watch him go to work.

He's not there and I think Lavin is blowing it by not emphasizing that he should be down there or at the very least pump-faking a midrange shot and taking it to the whole 75% of the time.

When I saw his tape at SVSM and AAU, I thought the kid looked like a future lottery pick if he could add to his skill set and put on some weight. He went to Brewster and became more of a PF and his handle didn't improve at all--it might have even gotten worse.

Yeah, but he got stuffed again last night.

Ironically his shot was really bad in HS and got better in his year at Brewster. But nothing else improved and some things regressed. Of course Jason Smith is a great coach and all so I can't figure it out………..

Our maturity should give us a win at the Dome!
We return Jakarr, Jordan, Obekpa, Harrison, Branch, Greene, Pointer and our usual top 50 recruits to fill three slots.
Never mind! I was looking at the Syracuse recruiting list.
