Pitt Basketball Program In Decline?

Interesting article noting among other things the loss of identity because of move to ACC;

Very interesting and well thought out article. Thanks for sharing. I don't expect Dixon to say anything other than what he said in the article, but the reality is, moving to the ACC has definitely had a negative impact on his ability to recruit from the Northeast.

yep and that is good for St. John's. It will take years for the ramifications from the break up of the Big East, which Pitt and Cuse initiated, to be understood. But I hope it is all bad for both of them. Greed needs to have a karma effect.

.. the Boston College effect.

Was just going to say the same thing. Has any old BE team sustained any success long term in ACC basketball? Probably only Notre Dame? But it has only been two years for them. The old teams have success when they first go to the ACC but then they slip to middle of the pack teams and maybe make a run once in a while.

Incredible that comparatively lousy football programs drove the change of leagues at Syracuse and Pitt.

Syracuse is next. The sanctions, Boeheim gone in three years, no identity in the ACC.

They would have been better off if the Big 12 lost some teams to the Pac-12, and then reshaped itself into the Big 16 with an eastern-ish division.

Pitt, West Virginia, Syracuse, UConn, Louisville, etc.

Pitt's lucky Dixon didn't go for the ASU job.

Pitt is just not in on the ACC scam. They have these high schools that are just set up for basketball all over the south, and they get kids young to come from up north, and you have that sneaker money to boot..so when the kids are ready for college there are good kids now home grown. Pitt doesn't have such a pipeline. You can only have so many good teams in a conference and unfortunately Duke, UNC, Virginia have figured it out

Carolina too. They are not going to relinquish their stranglehold any time soon.

I never considered Notre Dame a Big East or ACC team, they kind of do their own thing. I do think however, that BC, Pitt, Syr will pay for a very long time for going to the ACC. Their tournament and everything about the conference is Tobacco Road. NC, Duke, Virg, would look as stupid in the Big East as the 3 teams above look in the ACC.
