Pitino II to Minnesota

2 relatively younger guys, one without head coaching experience (Collins), will now be coaching against guys like Matta, Izzo, McCaffrey, Beline, and Crean.

Will not be easy.

But they've learned from probably two of the best five coaches ever. I like my odds better with RP2 than CC, though. I am shocked that he's been fast tracked this quickly, though. If he wins there he can eventually say hello to the Louisville gig.

Or the Providence gig, or the Knicks, or Kentucky, or the Celtics... but, yes, I agree.

Pitino has the Pedigree that gets attention in the Basketball World Fraternity.. As does Collins. Collins could have probably had other jobs, like Mike Hopkins at Syracuse but, choose to wait it out at Duke. N'Western is interested in being competitive in the Big 10 not winning it every year. Getting to the NCAA'S every few years is all that's necessary there.

Minn is a tough job because it's a league dominated by IU, Michigan, Mich St, Ohio State. Illinois and Purdue every few years. Iowa occasionally. I think they just thought that what they were getting with Tubby was all they were going to get and, they still might have illusions to the Clem Haskins era, which proved to be a disaster, because of the scandals he committed.. IU also had to undergo major rebuilding after Sampson, who destroyed that program as badly as Jarvis did to our.

All Pitino needs to do is get to the NCAA'S, beat one of the top Big 10 teams once in a while and maybe get to the Sweet 16 in 3-4 years. If he does that, he gets in line for his Dad's Job at L'ville.

Just guessing, but I think somebody did not like Tubby. He's a big time coach for a big time program. The new guy got decades to catch up to Tubbs. Alford wasn't ready for Indy, so Iowa gave him a shot. They called for his head plant. Plenty of times he could have gotten the boot. Worked out for him in Mexico and now he got the big one. When that happened it was a long way from his break in period. The kid at the Hall ahead of Pitino. Me thinks. Maybe I just don't like seeing a guy like Tubby get the boot. It happens to most of them.

Don't forget Wisconsin who Bo Ryan has turned into a big ten upper echelon program.

My oversight completely... Ryan is a great Coach.. Shows what a cerebral Coach can do in a hotly competitive league.. He doesn't get the best talent but, puts his imprint on his team's by the in the face defense he expects.

Wish Lavin had that gene..

HMM, wonder if we could get a Bo Ryan?

"...getting to the NCCAA's every few years is all that's necessary there" referring to Northwestern
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that the next time they make the NCAA's will be the FIRST TIME in their basketball history!!
