Pirates sink our ship

I've read the main board and it appears the love affair with CMA is officially over. When the moderators trumpet for a change in coaches , from Anderson to his nephew, we can assume the season is basically over as the game attendance showed today.  That loss of confidence in the team started after the Kansas game when the lack of upper level talent became obvious. Nothing has changed since that embarrassing display of bad basketball.

As for today's game, our team basically handed the game to Seton Hall. They were playing without one of the better guards in the conference and our backcourt not only couldn't take advantage but showed fans they are not a very cohesive and smart group of backcourt players. Instead of setting up plays they consistently looked to drive against a tall and talented Pirate front line. I lost track of the blocks and misses under the basket by Posh,Wusu and Mathis. When looking at their horrible stats one may think they were missing outside shots but many were right under the basket. Missed layups and blocks was their contribution today. Ironically, the Pirate backcourt was not much better without Bryce Aiken. In short, had our backcourt played even a fair game this game was ours. Can't blame the coach for that pathetic performance. As for those clamoring for Smith or Coburn, Smith's only redeeming quality is his outside shooting. He is a liability in every other way.

Now, on to Julian Champagnie. This kid has effectively played himself out of the NBA draft. Against better opposition he has been exposed. He had one successful dribble shoot attempt at the beginning of game.....period. He is too easy to guard by quality opponents. He lacks fire and rarely tries to put the game on his back.Wheeler, at 6'9", has more NBA level qualities in that he can hit threes and handle ball and drive effectively. Unfortunately, like JC, he is a poor defender.

We are all scratching our heads at this point when it comes to player decisions and today was no exception. Today neither quality freshmen played. Pinzon supposedly is a Covid mystery but one of my favorite players, O'Mar Stanley, was a DNP.  With the, less than stellar season Wusu, Posh and JC are having, all hands on deck will be needed to salvage a savage season.

As for a coaching change, don't hold your breath. Unless Anderson agrees to mutually part ways with a negotiated long term settlement, he will stay on payroll if he had half of the agent Slice had. St. Johns may have burned too many bridges with big donors with the Mullin fiasco.
