“We won’t get credit, man. It’s always unfair. Big market vs. small market. It’s never going to be fair. With Avisaíl (Garcia) and me, when I saw the ballot of the guys ahead of us – (Red Sox) Jackie Bradley Jr. and (Yankees) Brett Gardner – and they’re hitting around .200 or lower. That tells you it right there.”
This guy runs his mouth a lot for a 31 year old who has never played a full season in the Bigs.
Doesn't make him wrong.
All Star games have always been a popularity contest. This isn't new. You know this.
You're correct that he's not wrong. Last winter he ripped his own fans saying TB fans were bad, granted their aren't many. Maybe if he didn't rip his own fans they would vote more for him?
A lot more credence would also come if he was established star getting screwed over. Instead he's 31 and hasn't played a full year. Reminds me of Logan Morrison complaining about Gary Sanchez in HR Derby. Meanwhile Logan Morrison is in AAA ironically the Yankees farm team and Sanchez is smacking HRs still.
I obviously love to argue and debate, so here goes. Truth is truth and giving one speaking it credence based on their credentials seems, well, illogical. Now, for sure, All Star selections has always been a popularity contest but I personally don't like fans selecting the teams pretty much for the reasons Pham cited. But then I still hate the DH and replay so I am clearly hopelessly stuck somewhere in the past.
I know you love a good debate. And I respect your opinion on quite a few matters.
But in the case I said what I had to. This guy is a loudmouth who IMO doesn't have a soapbox to stand on here. I hope he gets to leave TB so he can play in a market with more fans and get more votes so he can play in a meaningless baseball game in the middle of July during the 3 deadest days of the sports year

Seriously, I get it and understand perfectly where you are coming from; just trying to kill a morning waiting for a conference call from hell.
A Friday I wish I wasn't working. We could argue about the DH. I'm new school. I hate watching pitchers who can't hit strategy be damned
Then why not expand rosters and have offensive and defensive teams? Many players can’t hit. They all can swing for home runs but many can’t hit. But again, I am very old school.
How about no DH and pitchers don’t hit.
8 batters
Game is finally quicker.

Actually, I like that idea...
