When I woke up this morning, we were 6-3. We have won the games that we should have even if some were not very artistic. The team has shown a toughness that I can respect.
When we were down 16 to Rutgers in the second half, they kept fighting and encouraging each other. When they had difficulty scoring, the team still played hard on defense.
Ellison and Williams are out, Felix has missed games, Kassoum just became eligible and Marcus has not played at all. Durand Johnson and Ron M are graduate transfers who were not stars at their old schools.
I am rational enough to understand that we are going to take some beatings this year, however I believe the foundation is being put in place for us to be successful in the future. Lovett, Mussina, Sima, and Ellison give us a solid core of freshmen who will only get better with experience. Tariq Owens will have 3 years of eligibility left when he starts playing next year. Have not seen enough of a healthy Williams, but he will hopefully be a contributor. I expect Christian Jones to continue to make steady improvement.
Ponds is already committed for next year. If we also get Ahmed or Frudenberg, we will have a core of young players who should help us rise to the top echelon of the Big East.
Additionally, Matt A has been recruiting Jordan Tucker '17 very hard and has developed a good relationship with his father. Jordan is probably the best player in the CHSAA.
I prefer to look at the foundation and imagine how nice it will be when completed. For those of you who can only see the mud, that's on you. Some posters are still hung up on Lavin's attire, Norm's failures, and Jarvis' attitude and none of them are here anymore.
As for me, Chris is our coach, these are our players and I will continue to support them.

I'm actually enjoying this season and watch every game on TV and even the live streams. When you know each game isn't about national rankings or for a NCAA invite, it's easier to just take in the game instead of being aggravated with every bad play. I had some reservations about Mullin because he never coached before, but I think he is doing well and making his mark as a teacher and recruiter already.

Im with you ray. Ive been DVRing games i miss due to work. and Ive watched them all. Remember how people say you appreciate the penthouse when you started in the outhouse. We are seeing a slow build, enjoy it.

I agree re enjoying watching the games.

It's definitely a different kind of rooting. Last year we were rooting hard for that NCAA bid our seniors wanted. This year, we are obviously rooting for Ws, but for me and I'm sure many others on here, the progression of our young guys is on the forefront of my mind when watching. If we win great, but a loss does not hurt that much, I just like to see progression

I can't prove this, but it's got to be incredibly rare in the history of D1 basketball to not only have basically an entirely new roster, but also a head coach who has never coached a game in his life. So for me, seeing the progression on both of those fronts is the fun part of this season.

When we played Thomas Aquinas, the most disturbing part of that game for me--by far--was the fact that Mullin did not once get up from his seat and appeared to be delegating all of the in-game strategy to Greg St Jean. It flat out depressed me. Fast forward to today and he's fully engaged, cursing at the players--even berating them from the handshake line--I love it!

And maybe, just maybe he allowed his team to go out there against STAQ in an exib game, without being overly involved and allowed them to play an unsupervised game showing them that if they don't listen to him and his staff they're going to get their assed kicked.

Entirely possible, bobo. May or may not be true, but I wouldn't be surprised at all if it were.

Despite the team's lack of experience and depth, I think a lot of us are enjoying this year because not only do we see these work hard and pull for each other, but there's a collective optimism about the short term and long term future of the program for the first time in a long time.

We all know and can see that there won't be too many more wins this year, but it's ok because we all know it's not about this year. And for whatever their shortcomings, these kids are still a likable bunch that probably have a surprise upset or two in them before the year is out. But mostly, it just genuinely feels good to think that there's really a chance for something special to build right here and now, right before our eyes.

I'm enjoying getting to know the new players, most will be around 4 years. Reminds me of 2011 w DLO and Dom, thinking the future will be bright. Was a bit disappointed w DLO's teams 4 year performance. I think Mullin will build a more balanced roster and we will be deep in the future, also will be better w player development. I'm enjoying watching Mullin coach.

You are way too rational to be posting here. You must not be a real fan.
