Men’s basketball coach Penny Hardaway and the University of Memphis are facing multiple Level I and Level II infractions charges by the NCAA.The Daily Memphian acquired a copy of the notice of allegations (NOA) and the amended notice of allegations that Memphis received from the Independent Accountability Resolution Process (IARP) investigation.

According to the NOA, Hardaway was involved in at least one Level I infraction and two Level II violations. These are the two most severe violations and are considered a significant breach of conduct. Hardaway was the only person specifically named in the NOA, though that does not preclude the mention of other individuals because there were a number of redacted portions in the document. In total, the University of Memphis received seven allegations. Allegations 1, 2, 3 and 7 were deemed Level I violations. Allegations 4 and 6 were deemed Level II. The level of Allegation No. 5 was redacted.

This is one of those situations where it's weird to cheat at all. Memphis is a hotbed, and kids there aren't two generations removed from the star player-turned-coach like when we had Mullin coaching. Throw in the AAU success, and the kids there not only knew who he was without being prompted by their parents, but also wanted to play there.

I mean is anyone surprised by this? Penny came to CBB and immediately started landing top 5 star players. He didn’t even try to hide it. Do you think Moussa Cisse transferred from a NYC high school to a Memphis prep school because he liked the area?

Penny trying to play the Nick Nolte role in Blue Chips.
