Peach Jam

I'll be heading there Thursday morning for the start of the 17 and under games. I'll also take in the 16 and under games while at the tournament.

I'll be sure to post with updates and any, other info later this week.

I had a feeling where Lavin would be, but this tweet solidifies Lavin's whereabouts.... Targeting Stephen Zimmerman and Goodluck Okonoboh. Chiles is there with him, as well.

Really good to talk to @SJUCoachLavin on the flight to Indianapolis today...Very genuine man who has #stjbb primed for big things ahead!

Hines is at the Peach Jam.

Imagine Lavin on a flight? You might not get a word in until the landing gear is deployed.

Thanks in advance for your time .and effort. Looking forward to your analysis

The first session of the day is down in the books at the Peach Jam. Johnnies' targets who impressed me were Angel Delgado and Jared Terrell. Unfortunately, our targets were all playing at the same time! LOL

Team Scan, NY Lightning, and Expressions Elite were all playing during the 10:30AM games. Luckily, Scan and Expressions were playing on adjacent courts, and I was able to move my head back and forth like a Ping-Pong ball. I watched the first halves of those respective games, and came away impressed with Terrell.

I was standing by one guy, and he was certain Terrell played high school football because of his build. Terrell is chiseled, and he won't have any problems banging in college (or beyond). There were two particular plays that showed his strength.... One particular play, he intentionally "bounced" off a kid to create space for a layup. On another play, he didn't really have a good shot, but he used his athleticism and strength to finish in traffic. It was a heckuva shot, considering the circumstances.

Abu was in foul trouble most of the first half, but he showed some ability to put the ball on the floor and grabbed a couple rebounds in traffic. He also had one emphatic block shot. That was pretty much for him, as he sat a good bit of the half due to foul trouble.

I also was able to watch some of Team Scan's game, as they were playing adjacent to Expressions (as, I mentioned earlier). I didn't see much from Diallo or Larrier in the first half, but whenever I was able to watch it was McCullough who was playing well. Dang! It sucks he's headed up to Syracuse. I really liked what I saw from him today. I'll catch more of their games starting tomorrow.

I ended up going to the lobby during halftime of Scan's and Expressions' games, and got sidetracked by talking to a guy who I know from my area. Well.... I decided to take in the last 7 minutes of NY Lightning's game. Let's say, I love what I saw from Angel Delgado (albeit, was a small sample). He thoroughly impressed me.

He seemed to always be around the ball. He goes after a rebound like it's his last meal. Not to mention, he seems to have fairly, decent offensive game. Of course, it could use some work, but he certainly has the requisite tools to be effective on the offensive end. He is a kid who could find himself in the NBA after 3 or 4 years of college. I truly believe it. He's a lunchpail guy that will do all the dirty work in aiding your team to win games.

I wouldn't have any problem bringing him along, if he wanted to come to St. John's. None at all.

I'll have more odds and ends throughout the next few days of the tournament.

EDIT: I saw Hines sitting on all of those games at some point or another. He needed a clone for today's morning games.

@AdamZagoria: Steve Lavin and 2 assistants here watching Expressions Elite with Abdul Malik Abu & Jared Terrell. Rutgers also here.

Get it done!

@jeffborzello: St. John's sitting three-deep at this Oakland Soldiers vs. Expressions game.

Abu & Terrell have to notice this.

In this morning's session, I was impressed by Abu's and Larrier's games.

Abu may be able to play 3 positions (from the 3-5), as he can put the floor, and he has a decent touch from outside. But make no mistake, he's gonna make his bones on the blocks. A fairly, smooth player who plays with physicality.

Larrier is like satin.... Smooth. He had the jumper going today. He's long and displays a decent handle. He needs to add some weight, but a solid prospect, nonetheless.

On another note: Diallo plays with intelligence. That is one thing you'll notice about his game while watching. He's usually in good position and smartly taps the ball to himself when he's particulaly not in the best position. He is always the first guy down the floor.

By the way, the staff offered De La Rosa due to his potential, good hands, and coordination. He's already lost 30 pounds, and they feel he's a diamond in the rough.

The staff is also targeting VJ King. The Ohio native loves Sampson.

The staff is also feels pretty good about the prospects of this upcoming team. Feel the requisite pieces and depth is there.

Oh! Harrison will be back. ;)

Thanks for all the info MJ.

Give Rico our best!

I'm finally back home from the Peach Jam. I had a good time, per usual. A couple posters bombarded me with text messages, but it was all good. LOL Good dudes.

I haven't expounded on much since Friday, as I've been a bit tired after watching games throughout the day. Not to mention, I ran into several parents who were at the Peach State (not Peach Jam) tournament, and we were talking hoops in the breakfast area of our hotel 'til the late night hours.

As, most of you probably already know by now.... Lavin headed up to New York, after Friday's sessions at the Peach Jam, to check in on Chukwu and Whitehead. The staff will have 3 scholarships to work with for the '14 class, and they're focusing on a big. More scholarships could open up via transfers and/or early NBA draft entry.

I'm also sensing Abu and Terrell could be more of a focus than Delgado and Larrier. Quite frankly, if I was choosing between Abu and Delgado, then I'd go with Abu. The only thing Delgado does better than Abu is rebounding. Otherwise, Abu brings more to the table.

Abu can put the ball on the floor; occasionally, hits shots behind the arc; has a decent face-up game; and plays well with his back to the basket. He's also strong AND more importantly, plays strong.

I think long-term that Larrier probably has more potential than Terrell (as, I think they are somewhat even as of now). But if you believe landing Terrell could potentially get you Abu, then you exert more energy towards Terrell.

Larrier's jumper seems to be more consistent than Terrell's at the moment (at least, from what I've witnessed over the past few days), but Terrell, like his AAU teammate (Abu), is strong as a bull and plays that way. He also has no trouble finishing in traffic. Not to mention, he can also stick jumpers like Larrier. Just not as consistent, as Larrier.

I was also told by a guy from my area, who works with a recruiting service (I saw him interviewing Larrier, and spoke with him, afterwards), that Larrier didn't mention the Johnnies when it came to his list of schools. Granted, Larrier only mentioned the schools who were coming at him "strongly," but the Johnnies weren't mentioned, nonetheless.

If there were a couple of kids whom I would've loved to see us on their lists, it would be Stanley Johnson and Jahlil Okafor.

Stanley Johnson is a beast.... Plain and simple. He seems to always be in control and understands the flow of the game. I know we were briefly mentioned with him a couple of years ago, though. Love his game.

I was talking to someone Saturday, and both of us went on about how Okafor clearly understands the game. He rarely ever forces the issue and makes smart decisions for the most part. He also knows how to use that big body and create space for himself while going up. Solid footwork, as well.

Either way, I believe it'll probably be one-and-done for Okafor and Johnson. I'd like to see, at least, two years, but that is an argument for another day.

Another Peach Jam has come and gone, folks. 'Til next time....

P.S. Thanks for all the 'thank you's' and compliments, folks.

Good stuff man. I know next to nothing about most of these guys so all your posts in this thread were very informative. Thanks dude. Cant wait for this season to begin.
