Oxygen True Crime Network Special on the Jayson Williams shooting of Limo Driver.

Just saw the special on the shooting and was shocked at what was revealed. Several members of the Globetrotters (Benoit Benjamin) at the house stated that Jayson aimed the gun at the limo driver, made a threatening statement and then pulled the trigger. They called the police 45 minutes after the shooting while the man layed dying so Williams had time to clean up the scene while he ordered guests to discard his blood stained cloths and he wiped down the gun. Perhaps the man could have been saved? Also told them to tell the police that the limo driver shot himself until the evidence revealed otherwise and a new story was concocted.

Even more shocking was that when all the evidence came out his high powered law team was able to get him off on a lesser charge. Just another case of a sports celebrity literally getting away with a far more serious crime due to excessive resources that was able to retain a high powered defense team.

And to think that after that he was honored at the university? I recommend that all of you watch this special on Oxygen True Crime TV and make your own judgement. Very upsetting.

Jayson was a ticking time bomb. His pre-murder and post-murder behavior was excused away because he was a millionaire athlete. IMO this killing was no accident. Sounds like this Oxygen special raises some serious questions, much to the dismay of many in the SJU community, who were hoping that this whole story would just go away.

I brought it up cause when the University goes into its “holier then now” routine regarding the hiring, or not, of particular individuals cause they don’t live up to a so called standard the university aspires to, the hypocrisy needs to be called out. Clearly, as you stated, Jayson’s criminal behavior was overlooked due to the size of the donation he made to the school.

No need for me to watch the documentary as the above information has been reported before and I've heard it. Doesn't make it any less shocking and disturbing for those hearing it for the first or second time. As someone posted he was a ticking time bomb and came close previously to blowing off the head of Kent Culuko (played at James Madison and was recruited by St. John's but heard Coach Carnesecca yelling at a player for taking a three and decided to go elsewhere) as he turned and fired a shotgun unaware Culuko was about to walk by and almost walked directly in front of the gun.

The fact that there were people there who allowed that delay before calling 911 was IMHO criminal let alone inhumane.

No need to narrow it down to sports celebrities, its celebrities and the rich in general who have a better chance of getting off on lesser chargers or off period.

You make a good point but its no secret that money talks. Also no secret in hypocrisy of any religious institution.

O.J. was exonerated at his murder trial and subsequently then did his time for robbing the robbers who stole his memorabilia but USC, the NFL and the Bills moved on and perhaps St Johns should have done so as well.
I used the OJ criminal trial as a way to teach new mental health staff the difference between "reasonable doubt", "preponderance of the evidence", and the "clear and convincing" evidence standard used in civil commitment hearings. The bizarre malpractice of the LA detectives in handling the evidence in the OJ case raised enough reasonable doubt to pardon Godzilla, let alone a local celebrity.

Think I remember the jury not believing in the science of the blood evidence anyway. Think other factors led to their decision.
