Orlando having a beast game for Westchester Knicks

The game he never had at St. John's

Maybe not in a big spot, but his game vs. Fordham last year was pretty special. We could have used that a few more times.

It's not exactly the same, but recently Kevin Love spoke about learning to play with LeBron:

'Love sounded dejected when talking to ESPN's Dave McMenamin about feeling lost:

"It's come to a point where I'm just trying to find myself in this offense. It's almost related to when you come into the league; usually the guys that dominate the ball so much tend to learn a lot quicker than a guy like myself, a big man. So, I'm just trying to find different spots in the offense."' '

I hate the SJU three guard offense. Guards dominate the ball, and last season, both Sampson and Sanchez appeared lost in the offense at times. It's amazing that we had a frontcourt of three NBA hopefuls, along with Harrison and Jordan, and still weren't a tourney team.

Not exactly, well played.

Complete the following

Kevin Love is to Lebron James as

(a) Pork Chops are to epistemology
(b) Orlando Sanchez is to Phil Greene
(c) Quantum Physics is to Quonset Huts
(d) Consensual Sex is to Domestic Abuse

No wonder Adonis failed his SATs. These are hard.

It just shows even more what poor coaching job Lavin did last year.

When I saw Sanchez a few times in JC play, I was impressed. He may have stayed too much on the perimeter & shot poorly last year, but I blame the absence of a coherent offensive system for his disappointing play.

Exactly Paultzman! That's what scares me about this season and this years team. With the right coach and the right system we can win with a small guard oriented team. Look at what Villanova accomplished a few years back starting four guards. Jay Wright implemented the perfect offensive system for that type of team. I don't trust Lavin to be able to do that. We have enough talent at the guard position to play the same way.

You are right to be concerned. A good chef can make a great meal with limited ingredients. A short order cook most often can't. :)

I think pompous people usually have difficulty reading for one, and respecting anyone else's opinion as well. It's why they end up failing in careers, and retiring early, usually not their choice.

I was referring to Love's comments comparing the adjustment of playing with LeBron to being new in the league and playing with guys who controlled the ball. It's a valid comparison to forwards adjusting in a three guard offense.

Whatever the actual reasons, whether it be poor coaching, poor execution, or a guard oriented offense, it's clear that our front court players were only occasional contributors to the offense. I think Love's explanation of adapting to players who controlled the ball merits discussion and consideration.

Now you are starting to understand what all the "fuss" has been about!

It will be very difficult for Lavin to ever assemble more talent here than the roster he was working with last season. And yet, we still failed to make the tournament or win a game in the conference tournament, or even in the NIT, and lost 7 of our 8 "big" games.

I thought when Keady joined the Lavin team he would play a very, very important part. Obviously he hasn't influenced our poor offensive schemes. And why not?

I chalk it up much more to bad chemistry than you do. I happen to think that both Greene and Harrison have not proven themselves to be winning players. Jordan gets a freshman pass, but won't this season. Sampson was in a malaise until the moment of his putback monster slam at CA. Could Lavin be at fault completely? That's where you and I disagree.
