Obekpa made a mistake....we all need to get over it. I'm not condoning what he did or anything, but it is what it is. Time to move on.

Did he 'screw' his fellow Johnnys out of an NCAA tournament win? Possibly. But even with him playing, there was no guarantee that we would have beaten SDSU.

And by the way, how is this situation really any different than D-Lo back in the 2012-2013 season? Ya know, when he got suspended for the last 6 games of the year, and 'screwed' his fellow Johnnys over and cost them a chance to play in the NCAA tournament. Hell even Coach Mullin was suspended over substance abuse at one point in his career.

As far as him being depressed...I doubt anyone on this board knows him personally, so who is anyone to judge him on how he felt? He f'ed up....no ifs, ands, or buts about it. But maybe he realized it, and just didn't need to be reminded of it all the time.

hey jumbo D Lo did Not test positive 4 marijuna he was late for practices n had bad behavior thats way different !
As far as being Depressed Drugs can cause depression so hes reapin what he has sown
Coach Mullin entered a alcohol detox program voluntary under coach Don Nelsons reccomendation
Mullin was Never suspended for illegal drugs that was just rumors you r bringin up :eek:hmy: .

A suspension is a suspension in my eyes. Did they do different things to warrant their suspension? Yes, absolutely.....but that doesn't change the fact that both players acted selfishly and potentially cost their team some wins. So you want to look past and forget one suspension and not the other?

I agree with you that marijuana can be a depressant, but that doesn't mean that it was the sole reason he was depressed.

As far as Mullin, where did I say he was suspended for illegal drugs? I said he was suspended over substance abuse...which he was. And he voluntarily entered rehab after he was suspended. Don't believe me? Read this:

"During Mullin’s third season, new coach Don Nelson confronted him about missing several practices, related to the alcohol abuse. Mullin, who had ballooned to nearly 250 pounds, was in denial about the issue. Though he enjoyed drinking, he never caused trouble and never made a scene, making Mullin believe he had no problem.

After Mullin broke a promise to Nelson to give up drinking, the coach suspended him and suggested he get help. At 24, Mullin entered a month-long rehab program, spending roughly six hours in meetings and therapy each day. One of the most difficult times in his life became the “best thing” that ever happened to him."

U Cant defend Ope_Dope he smoked pot before the ncaas n tested positive stop ur spinin
he deserved his suspension n maybe a dismissal if im AD :  Moanasch screwed that up!

u insinuated Mullin had a SUBSTANCE ABUSE problem not the booze stop spinnin

I am not defending Obekpa for smoking pot, and I am not 'spinnin' anything. Smoking pot is wrong and illegal (in some places)...that is not the argument. I am defending him from a pure basketball related sense, because everyone was quick to jump on him and bash him for getting for being suspended right before the NCAA's. And my argument was that DLo also got suspended before the NCAA's and possibly cost us a few more wins, but everyone was very willing to forgive and forget that.

As far as Mullin, alcohol abuse is substance abuse! They are the same thing......so if Mullin had an alcohol problem, he also had a substance abuse problem.

You are making excuses for DLo because he was a fan favorite, which I do not blame ya for...But his brother in jail is a good reason for being late to/missing practice? At the end of the day, they both got suspended (no matter what the reason for) at a key time in the season and potentially screwed their teams over.

Your point about the legality of all these things is irrelevant. I never brought up the debate on whether or not this stuff was legal.

You said and I quote: "u insinuated Mullin had a SUBSTANCE ABUSE problem not the booze stop spinnin."

My point is that Mullin did have a substance abuse problem, because alcohol abuse is substance abuse! You are upset because I keep saying that alcohol abuse is substance abuse.....but it is! What part of that are you not understanding?

While I understand the feelings a lot of posters have towards Chris, I don't think that they are taking the time to look at the whole picture. Chris came to this country as a teenager five or six years ago to play basketball. When it became known that he was a good player, all of the vultures came out of the woodwork trying to get a piece of him. Chris was not brought to America as some sort of benevolent gesture, he was brought here because someone thought he had the potential to eventually make money. After a relatively successful freshman season, the situation only got worse.
Here is what I would like to ask those of you who are so upset. How would you feel being placed in a foreign country at 16 years old away from your family and all that you have grown comfortable with. When most of us had problems or made mistakes as teenagers, we had families that we could depend on for support and guidance. Chris did not have any of that, he was separated from his family and surrounded by people more concerned with his basketball ability than his development as a young man. If you think I am wrong, look at the comments on this board about Chris. How many do you see that say, this young man has made some very bad decisions, I hope that he gets the assistance he needs to turn around his life. Most say "good riddance" or "how could he do this to 'us' ". Ungrateful has become his middle name.
While I am not condoning anything that Chris has done, I do have empathy for the difficult situation that he was placed in at a very young and vulnerable age.
I made a lot of bad decisions when I was younger but was able to turn my life around with the help of supportive family and friends. Maybe that is why I can look at Chris' situation and hope that he eventually gets the guidance that he needs.
This quotations has always stuck with me, "Don't judge a man until you walk a mile in his shoes".

For starters, please use some etiquette in your typing. In other words, please use punctuation, and only use capital letters when it is necessary. Your posts are very difficult to read at times. Thanks!

Finally, why were you willing to give DLo another chance after his suspension, but not Obekpa?
