Warren Beatty's vanity was justified all along, as he was correct in probably thinking this song was about him. So says Carly Simon in her soon to released memoirs regarding her 1972 song, "You're So Vain."

Don't laugh. Anyone here 40 or over always wanted to know.

Interesting as it was just recently claimed that it was David Steinberg in the very interesting bio that aired on (HBO or Showtime?) earlier this year.

See typical woman. "You're so vain, you probably think this song is about you". Well it was about him so it is not vanity just reality. Song never made any sense. At least where Warren Beatty is concerned anyway. If someone else had thought it was about them then I guess the title would apply. But most people including Warren thought it was about him and since she was clearly venting about him, he wasn't vain, just correct. Better title would have been I hate you Warren Beatty, Or yes, this song is about you Warren Beatty.

I think Carly Simon fully understood the irony of the song. The irony of it was always my favorite part anyways.

Jackie Gleason is very well rolling over in his grave over your referring to the song as art!! ;) :p

I think the worst part is realizing Carly Simon is 70!
