Maybe so but it is hard to imagine a team with a last season ranking if 280 nationally being a formidable opponent for a team looking for an NCAA invite and a finish in the upper half of the Big East.. And while they may have improved, a win over them will do little for an NCAA resume where as a loss would be devastating.Merrimack is a huge improvement over Mississippi Valley State, that's for sure.
This year ooc schedul better than years past.Maybe so but it is hard to imagine a team with a last season ranking if 280 nationally being a formidable opponent for a team looking for an NCAA invite and a finish in the upper half of the Big East.. I had forgotten about the transition requirement until recently when discussing James Madison's football team with my sons (my youngest is a frosh there). Apparently in its two years as they are making a transition from FCS to FBS but you can ask for a waiver. Maybe its only two for them since all of their sport programs were already D1 (besides the distinction of FBS and FCS in football) while Merrimack is moving their sports programs from D2 to D1. Kudos to both programs as they had a well thought out strategic plan and did not rush into it.Merrimack is actually the favorite to win the NEC this year which is somewhat unfortunate for them as they are still ineligible for the NCAA Tournament due to their 4 year D1 transition period
Not regular season but the blowout exhibition loss to St. Thomas Aquila's in Mullin's first game.I had forgotten about the transition requirement until recently when discussing James Madison's football team with my sons (my youngest is a frosh there). As an aside, before realignment and reconfiguration of the Big East last decade, The Big East asked Nova to join their football league by elevating their program from FCS to FBS which Nova was agreeable to and actually developed a strategic plan to do so. Home games were to be played at PPL Park in Chester as they couldn't get other fields closer to them as they were controlled by other colleges. Well, it became a moot point eventually and I guess Nova is very happy being a very good and competitive FCS program.
Now to bring this back on topic, let's not take our OOC foes lightly as we have seen loses to such great programs as Niagara (the only team not named Georgetown to beat the 1884/85 Final Four team), LIU (in fairness they did go dancing that year while we did not), St. Francis on the night they honored Coach Carnesecca and named the arena after him, Fordham and Incarnate Word in the same season, Delaware State and ODU.
