One and Done. Done?

Looks like the NBA is going to drop the one and done rule and allowing 18 year olds to jump to the league without waiting a year. Could happen by 2024.

This may be a killer to the N$L market in CBB. Players who are borderline league players make out better but is a Miami Booster going to give someone a huge N$L deal if they aren't a definite game changer.

I hope they do it right with the option to go to school if they aren't drafted but don't really seeing that happening with the G league as a backup.

NBA needs to overhaul their draft. Add rounds and follow the NHL or maybe MLB model.

Hockey players are drafted and remain property of the NHL club until they exhaust their college eligibility. Will at least give kids options. NBA already has international draft and stash. Why not make the American version.

The thing I like most about the MLB draft is that you can go straight from HS or you have to wait until you are a JR. It would be great for CBB. Of course some kids would leave and go to the G-League or overseas in between FR-JR year but it would stabilize CBB big time.

It's shame that the NBA wont adapt the NFL's policy on drafting college players. It would certainly add more stability to college programs and with the lucrative NIL deals that are being thrown around these days, many of those kids would still benefit financially.

This issue has already been adjudicated in a court of law for both the NFL and NBA a long time ago.

Not exactly accurate:

  1. You can get drafted right out of High School
  2. You can get drafted after your freshman or sophomore year if you go to a Juco
  3. You can get drafted after you junior or senior year at a four year school
  4. You can get drafted when at anytime even if you are not a junior or senior at a four year school if you “age eligible” (the age of a junior whether you redshirted a year or not)
  5. You go to an independent league out of high school and start play there (Harper of the Phillies)
I do agree with your overall point as it is what I have stated for a long time especially now with the G league.

Most baseball people prefer getting a youngster direct from High School as they feel they can better develop the player and get them to the major leagues at an earlier age. This comes from the money Major league baseball has spent on player developement. I just don't see this in the NBA's approach with the D League.

Got your point and all of the workarounds of the MLB Draft (Pretty much workarounds for anything if there is $$$).

The NBA and NCAA BB are not a working partnership and that's the biggest problem. I think what most CBB fans want are teams that play together for multiple years. Unfortunately, I think that is and has been in danger for a long time. Transfer Portal / N$L are just the latest examples.
