Omar Cook to coach in NBA

I think he'll make a terrific coach.

First, he was that rare player who saw every play before it happened - a gift he had probably since birth.

Second, 20+ years of playing high-level ball in Europe is great on a resume since so much of today's NBA game resembles traditional Euro Ball.

He had a successful basketball career, just because you do not make it to the NBA means you failed. He played for 20 plus years of a game he loves and I am sure he made plenty of money and will continue to be around the game at the highest level. Seems like yesterday I met Cook at MSG on a recruiting visit. This man is doing just fine and a Redman forever.

Glad to see omar cook doing well, always liked him as a player. Now a coach in the NBA level, hoping good things come for him

He actually did take it to the NBA but only played 22 games in the league.

Still a class act.

Vague recollection that there was a management change at Denver and he was a development project of the guys who were ousted.

Yeah, then signed and played for Portland as a rookie and a short stint at Toronto 2nd year before going overseas.

Great for Omar . He did what was best for him and no one can argue with that .

He might have gotten some questionable advice to turn pro after 1 year at St Johns but , he did what he wanted to do .

The 1 and dones were not as prevalent back then either .

I don’t think there is any question he would have put up big numbers here as he had extraordinary ability .

I believe he also wasn't a big proponent of Jarvis either.

Agree on all counts, only shortcoming was he never got his shot good enough to keep the defenders honest.

Omar was extremely talented but he was more than a handful at the time both on and off the court. Bad attitude and immaturity caused problems at CTK and here.”

There is a story out there how he was at one of the pre-draft camps as was Jarvis and other coaches. Jarvis was heading back to New York and one scout asked him if he was leaving and Jarvis responded “yes”. The scout replied “You should take Omar with you”.

He had a long and successful career, congratulations on his new position.

Not sure how bad his attitude was in high school, but being here probably caused a lot of it.

He played a game of chicken with UNC, and back then UNC never flinched. Cook lost, and likely ended up at a school where he never truly wanted to be in the first place.

Different circumstances of course, but Long Islander Danny Green didn't make same UNC mistake, and ended up with a long NBA career.

Good point about UNC. As for high school, yeah he was a problem attitude wise there also.
