Oliva..Help me understand.

Oliva was behind the Mullin hire after Monasch was turned down seeking an extension for Lavin. He supposedly brought in Slice and Matt.

He was the interim AD until Cragg was brought in.

So how is he still running the show? This isn't a rhetorical question... Anyone?

He likes to have his hands in everything. He needs to stay away from the hoops program[/quote]

You're right but that's President Bobby's fault
Seems like they don't like to let people do their jobs
They have to have their finger on everything
They sure pulled the wool over Cragg's eyes when he interviewed for the job

Think Steve Gutman Jets 1990s. A person that should not have the power he has over the basketball program.

Spend for a real attorney to negotiate contracts who knows what he is doing. On Slice's deal alone, Oliva should have been kept far far away after that.

Why..? the school screwed Barry over....

They paid up for one of the top assistants/recruiters in the country and then let him go for the little rat Matt A

I think we're starting to understand why things are the way they are...not just at the bad coaching hires, but other things like dumb contracts. Guys like Oliva help to form tumors in our athletic department. We really are becoming a mid major guys this is scary. No other program in the Big East is even close to being this mismanaged.

Someone needs to study their St. John’s basketball history textbook and learn what really happened

I doubt anyone pulled the wool over Cragg's eyes. He either needed a job, or really wanted to be in NY for some reason.

To sabotage the hiring of Rick Pitino?

If you are referring to PMG, that's exactly what happened.

Correct Jack as very few no what really transpired and it had nothing to do with Matt. Happy to see PMG posting buy no need to take pot shots at Matt who really did the job he was hired to do at SJU.

It's early, but the leading candidate for our highly coveted "Avatar Of The Year Award" is LJSA for his current anti-Oliva submission.

My recollection is that Oliva stepped up and offered to lead the athletic department on an interim basis when Monasch left. He did have influence prior. But with Goff being such a weak hire, he retained authority due to a void, and should have been vacated by a competent hire. That he still exercises any authority is unfortunate.

I hate to revisit the Slice thing day after day, but the reality is that once it rose to the level of contemplation of separation someone had to step in and say let's resolve this thing if possible because we just made a $3 million investment in the guy. In reality when a potential assistant demanded a guaranteed deal to come on board, someone in charge (Oliva) should have told Chris to keep looking because it's not happening. Then once a conflict flared up, someone should have told Chris to fix it because we aren't eating $3 million within 6 months of brining this superstar on board.
