Ohio St. President Takes Shot at ND & Catholics

Said some dumb things, but it's a joke that he needed to apologize for the Little Sisters of Poor comment. It's been a harmless, oft-repeated crack in sports -- probably by our beloved Louie more than anyone else -- that is demeaning to neither the good sisters nor Catholics in general.

It sounded more like sour grapes over ND turning down the Big Ten than an attack on all Catholics. Just my opinion.

"Those dam Catholics can't be trusted..."
Yea that sounds like sour grapes! Sour grapes and hate!!!

It's incredible that such a moron could hold down such a respectable position. He simply cannot keep his mouth shut. Replace "Catholic" with Jewish or Muslim and he would have been all over the news.

This is just one in a series of jackass remarks Gee has made. He keeps his job because he is proficient at fundraising. Gee, himself, is a mormon, as well as a moron. Maybe his bicycle helmet is strapped on a bit too tight.

Seems to me gee is a comedian more than anything else I don't think what he said is the end of the world the great thing about nd is that they can brush this off and move on. Comments sound more jealous than anti catholic IMHO,

You expect to hear the outrageous at a team friendly sports banquet. I'm sure it was funny for the donors and fans in attendance and was delivered with a wink and no malice. I don't have any idea why he was 'picking' on L'ville except that they won the Bball NCAA's over the preseason picks of Ohio State and the Big Ten in general. Sore Loser??
What is not so funny is their $100,000,000 plus athletic operations budget , exclusive from the capital improvement budgets to the playing fields and sports buildings, that OSU , and many state run Universities, spend each year. At the very least, ND gets their money the hard way, from friends and successful graduates. The citizens of Ohio must think of their entitlement monies as some form of "Obama money" that magically appears from someone other than themselves.

I'd like you to imagine the words being this; "those damn Jews" and lets see how our Hebrew brethren would handle it and what the reperussions would be...I'm sure not as off-handed and relaxed as your take on it.
.

Gee was the Chancellor at Vanderbilt for three years while my son was there. He would meet with students at their beer parties, bring them cookies when they moved in and was definitely not prejudiced against Catholics or anyone else and I got to meet him, and heard him speak numerous times. In today's society every word we say is scrutinized and examined and Gee, being in the high profile position he is in, just didnt dot his "i's" or cross his "t's". As far as Notre Dame is concerned, let's face it they have been the one school that has been the most selfish and I can understand what he was trying to say. Look what they did when they came to the Big East and the sweetheart deal the BE gave them. On top of that, and I have said this before, if they had let the BE schools play with their football we never would have seen the league break up and I am going back to the days of Miami and BC leaving. Even with the ACC they have their special agreement. So I am not crying over what was said about ND

Agree with you completely re your notre dame point, and had Gee said "notre dame," instead of "Catholics," the blowback would have been minimal. He aslo made disparaging remarks re the SEC, which includes Vanderbilt, and Louisville. Cookies notwithstanding, the guy uses real poor judgement for a university president. Combined with the recent news from St. John's and Rutgers, this hasn't shown college presidents in the best light.

Being a devout Mormon, I hope his wives correct him :)

Beast, you're a devout Mormon?

Actually I'd visited SLC last year, felt I was ignored at the ignored at the Visitor's Center for the LDS church as the young missionaries focused on attractive visitors of the opposite sex. When I visited the family history center the next day, Elder Albers helped me find some family history. Turns out his family name was really Albertini and he kindly recollected how he was of Italian heritage (as I am). I came home joking that I was going to convert.

“@AP: BREAKING: Ohio State president retiring after jabs at Notre Dame, Roman Catholics, SEC in recorded remarks.”

Good riddance...take him and his bow tie to another act and maybe try his biases on another audience.
