Does anyone think the game is getting worse in terms of lack of flow. Just seems like way too many whistles and there is no chance for the game to get into a flow. Combine the crazy number of whistles (many questionable) and then the timeouts (I know there are less this year) it just seems like games are less and less enjoyable to sit through and watch.

The brain trust is trying to (in the words of Tarik Turner) "not reward the defense" to make the game more fun to watch.. I took that a little out of context but when I heard it, it bugged the crap out of me. But in my opinion that is the gist of it and it is misguided and destined to backfire.

Either that or you are just getting old and crotchety.

Agree. Last night I admit to breaking my personal record for yelling " Let them f'n play" after never ending "ticky tack" calls. :)

If this continues I might have to start watching the NBA

Too many touchy feelly fouls especially against Mussini But so long as they are consistent
with all can live with it. You must learn to adapt to the rules

I watched and thought that I had never seen so many fouls called while someone was at the foul line

Don't you think that is the case in all sports? I know this is heresy but I stopped watching football because between the commercials and replay reviews on seemingly every other play it feels like there is no game to watch, certainly I do agree about the Wagner game, especially rawdognyc's comment about the foul line calls, ridiculous.

In the Wagner game I was already getting frustrated by this in the first few minutes but thought the refs were just establishing their authority. It got more annoying as the game progressed (haltingly) until the last few minutes when most of the calls went our way. Oddly enough I felt no objection to them then.

p.s. that was after Mullin called one of the refs over to complain about a call. Mullin's iconic face and reputation may be a factor in our games like that of Coach K. Nothing is more annoying than watching refs trying to appease Coach K. However, watching refs reacting similarly to Mullin wouldn't bother me one bit.

As video review is proving, officiating in even professional sports is not very good. Basketball with it's constant motion and legal incidental contact, may be the hardest game of all to get consistently right. I'd like the number of allowable fouls increased to 6, which will balance out bad calls and also narrow the distance between stacked rosters and teams that can't afford to lose their best players on fouls 2,3, and 4.

Mullin's go-to move is slapping the refs on the ass every time he talks to them. I saw him slap 4 asses in like a 2 minute span on Friday. How many coaches in their first ever game would dare do that? Mullin's a different animal.

In his case it was the players not the refs. Maybe the refs' kids.

I was struck by this as well. I wasn't able to get to either of the pre-season games, so this was my first in-person chance to closely observe Mullin on the sidelines. @SJU11Redmen is exactly right: He is absolutely a different animal.

Despite whatever he (Mullin) said at the post game press conference about being nervous, he looked anything but nervous on the floor - he looked in total control, and it was 100% clear that he had not just the respect of the refs, but he also had their ears. From the 20+ years in my seats and 30+ of watching us play, I've never seen anything remotely like it in any of our head coaches since Louie, and it absolutely helped and I absolutely loved it.

I loved the way he coached the game but the refs were horrible and gave us no breaks. Wagner got away with multiple travels and we got called for every foul in the book.
