Betting 12,000 on St. John's might be the easiest $200 ever made. :)

Some guy bet on Auburn...but will he get paid? Its like life insurance........post mortem...you hope the company pays off,but you wont be around to see it......There have have been recent long shots, like Butler who almost made it..Of course,in 1989 the biggest longshot(except Nova) SETON HALL was jobbed by ACC ref John Clogherty..

I still cannot believe the odds were that high. That's crazy! There are 1/3 the # of teams playing D-1 football as there are playing basketball. You can go ahead and cross off more than half at the beginning of every season (Temple, Buffalo, etc). Then you figure in the fact they play in the SEC--which means they could lose one...potentially TWO games...and still make the BCS title game. The cherry on top of that was playing their arch-rival and preseason #1 at home. Anything goes in rivalry games...especially at home. Of course I have the luxury of piecing this together after the fact, but I would have thrown 20 bux down had I seen this.

Auburn's record last year was 3-9, 0-8 (SEC).
Even Bo Jackson wouldn't have taken that wager.

This is true, but they were the youngest team in the country last year and they returned all but one starter. That is almost unheard of. The roster is littered with NFL talent. They also had a top ten recruiting class the last four years. 500-1 odds just seems insane for an SEC team not named Vanderbilt or Kentucky.

And I believe had a 1st year coach

True - Gus Malzahn had been a highly regarded coordinator but this is his first HC position

Wasn't his claim to fame being the HC from the Blind Side :)

That was Hugh Freeze, who Malzahn replaced at Arkansas St., after, I believe, Freeze got the Ole Miss job. Malzahn's claim to fame was being Auburn's OC while Cam Newton was there.
