QUEENS, N.Y. (Sept. 20, 2019) – “An Evening with St. John’s Basketball,” the program’s annual star-studded fall fundraiser, has been set for Thurs., Oct. 24 at the Roosevelt Hotel in Manhattan.
Entering its first season under the direction of Head Coach Mike Anderson, St. John’s will welcome Naismith Hall of Famer Nolan Richardson as the evening’s honored guest. Richardson, who coached Anderson at Tulsa before mentoring him as a member of his coaching staff for two decades, is the owner of more than 500 wins in 22 seasons as a Division I head coach. His teams earned postseason berths in all but two seasons, winning a national championship in 1994 and making two other Final Four appearances in 1990 and 1995.
Richardson, the only coach to win national championships at the junior college, NIT and NCAA Division I levels, pioneered the “40 Minutes of Hell” style that helped Arkansas win nine conference championships during his tenure, including a run from 1989-91 where the Razorbacks won the Southwest Conference regular season and tournament titles each year.
Richardson garnered the NABC National Coach of the Year and Naismith College Coach of the Year awards during the national championship campaign of 1994. He also has extensive experience at the international level, having served as the head coach of both the Panamanian and Mexican national teams.
