It grieves me to announce a good friend, former business partner and fellow alum who played basketball at our university passed away this morning. Robert Richard Romano graduated in 1955, was drafted by the Hawks and the Army. While playing ball in the army he injured his knee and was unable to fulfill his dream of playing in the NBA. While in college he developed a friendship with Jack Kaiser and maintained that relationship with periodic phone calls to discuss recruiting and the basketball program in general.
Although he graduted 16 years prior to me we enjoyed discussing having some of the same professors. When fellow teammate Zeke Zawolluk fell on hard times it was Robert who assisted financially. Robert was exceptionally smart and worked many years for Max Factor and was Executive Vice President when he decided to move on to other challenges. .
Robert will be greatly missed!
