"affiliate player"?

It's getting close to the time when Chris wakes up and realizes he squandered his best opportunities.

... and is a one dimensional player not nearly as good as he thinks he is. NEarly zero nba level offensive skills and way below average defensive ability once you get past shot blocking. For that matter, his sttempts to skyjack everything leaves him out of position when he fails to swat a shot.

I am actually shocked he has gotten this far, based on his limited skills and lack of size. Guess ya never know.

You don't want to hear this, but single-handedly likely cost SL his job. If he didn't pick up 2 fouls in the first 90 second of BET vs. Providence, a 3rd early in the second half, and refused to enter the game when SJU needed him, we could have won a 1st round game and likely gotten an at large bid. Then got suspended for the NCAA's vs. San Diego State for pot, which left us very short handed against a very beatable team. Win either game and SL likely comes back. Win both and SL is still here. I guess you should be thanking him :)

Very true Beast.

Did he ever play for UNLV?

No, too busy with his hobby.

I have little negative to say after all this time has passed about Steve Lavin other than he commanded very little respect from his players and what little control he had over his teams ended once Mike Dunlap left. Three years ago Nurideen Lindsey and Chris Obekpa took down their team and their weak coaches. It was inevitable that Steve Lavin would be fired but allowing two morons to expedite your termination showed how little Lavin cared about the bigger picture that did not include himself in the center.

CO was just the straw that broke the camel's back. Lav deserved to be shown the door regardless. Trust me, even with CO all in Lav would have found a way to F things up. Now don't go blaming me for bringing up bozo's name.

As someone who didn't like Lavin as a coach based on the product at UCLA (whole always seemed to be less than the sum of its parts), I prefer to consider not passing judgment on the man until "you have walked a mile in his shoes". In the course of his time at STJ he faced prostate cancer, lost his top assistant, lost his father, and I think there were reports of his marriage at risk. Hopeful about Chris and his staff but prefer that we lighten up.

"Have you no sense of decency Monte?"

Fuchsia 3 things for the record;

1) I was not the one to bring up Lav in this thread, but I most certainly am not one to miss an opportunity to take a few pot shots when his name comes up.

2) My concerns about Lav when he arrived had less to do with his record at UCLA, and far more to do with all the negative things I had heard about his lack of work ethic, etc(don't want to rehash) while at UCLA.

3) I was all in on Lavin during his first 3 years here. It's on record. So it's not as though I wasn't supportive of the man early on. In fact, I firmly believed initially(once we met with some success about mid-way through his first year) that he could be the long term answer to our coaching issues.

While I thankfully have never had to deal with cancer, I have lost my Dad and others very close to me, been through a horrible divorce and lost a number of key employees in my many years as boss(while working for others), and an employer myself for the past 25 years. I've never made excuses, and I always gave it my all during tough times. But then again I didn't have the luxury of a guaranteed multi-million dollar contract, not to mention fall back jobs in TV, if I didn't give it my all and if I failed miserably. So yeah, I have no idea what it's like to walk in Lav's shoes.

Understood by someone who is also in the "been there, done that" camp. My skepticism about how much public persona correlates with character is far outstripped by my joy at Paultzie including a Joseph Welch shot in his post.
