It is early but so far CO is clearly an improved player even though he is seeing less minutes. 20mpg vs 26mpg last season. Here are some stats:

[ul]
[li]FG%: '12-13: .451 -- '13-14: .667[/li]
[li]FT%: '12-13: .391 -- '13-14:.500[/li]
[li]REB: '12-13: 6.2 -- '13-14: 6.3[/li]
[li]BLK: '12-13: 4.0 -- '13-14: 4.0 [/li]
[li]PF: '12-13: 2.6 -- '13-14: 1.7[/li]
[li]TO: '12-13: 1.3 -- '13-14: 0.3[/li]
[li]PTS: '12-13: 3.9 -- '13-14: 4.7[/li]

Not to jump ahead Paul, but with Sanchez leaving and CO's minutes dramatically increasing, next year is probably the year we really make some noise.

I thought he was the key to the win last night, changed the momentum of the game.

The key was going 1-2-2, that allowed him to play off his man more than he would have to in straight man and rotate to block shots.

Indeed and I liked Dom on top, he is long and quick. Our defense looked terrific , I hate seeing CO guard his man out by the 3 point line...the zone was key.

Extremely early.

I think pairing him with Sanchez works well because he can sort of freelance on defense because there is another big out there on the floor.

And I've noticed that he's been getting very good low post position. Hard to tell what he can do down there but if he develops a little baby hook shot, that'll be gravy.

I agree. But I don't care about the hook shots. Every time he, Sanchez or Sampson have gone strong to the basket it has paid off nicely. Gift has also had a few nice moments here. When CO or Sampson or even Gift have tried to fineness it inside it gets ugly. Problem is that CO has gotten almost no looks other than some putbacks. Sanchez got a couple against Wisc, we made a run, then they stopped passing to him and Sampson created a few opportunities for himself the past three games. We need some good interior passing and some more drive and dish like Harrison to Gift which was a thing of beauty and we'd have some nice offense instead of Green and Sampson shooting just inside the three point line and everyone else shooting from 15-18'.

The zone we played last night was a more traditional 3-2...it allowed us not to over pursue up top and leave the wings wide open!! With dom at the point I'n the middle of the zone gives us a great chance to win!! Jakaar is not good at all on the defensive side, Orlando and dom are a solid duo I'n a 3-2

I don't think it is clear that CO is an improved player from the end of last year to the first few games of this season.

I haven't noticed much significant improvement in CO's on-ball defense (yet). His blocking remains phenomenal. I have, however, seen more confidence and assertiveness in the post. When he has gotten it, he goes up strong. I also see improvement in his rebounding, albeit a small sample thus far.

Sanchez is underutilized at this point

Right now we have to give Karr the most time because he's the more explosive player. I think CO and Orlando should get about equal time depending on game circumstances. Gift should see between 3 to 8 min. a game unless the other bigs get in foul trouble.

Jakarr may be the most explosive but I think he's the worst rebounder and defender out of those three.

He's the best rebounder by a mile.

I really like what I see from Oralando on the boards. I don't know the numbers but I think he will prove to be the better rebounder. That said, Karr can really get up. Btw, (and I know I keep singing his praises, but) Dlo has really rebounded well from the guard spot.

next year is probably the year we really make some noise.

I'm going to pretend that you didn't say that.

I'm going to assume TIS meant HE"LL really make some noise.

I think Paul meant that we will make some noise this year. Right now it appears as if the staff is trying to solidify everyone's roles. CO has been playing well with less minutes. Phil has played well without the responsibility of being the primary ball handler. D'Lo has been playing with confidence in his teammates, witness the assist to Phil for a "3".
Jakarr, Gift, Orlando are all playing relatively well and will continue to develop cohesiveness as the season continues. Rysheed will only get better with experience. The next few games should be an opportunity to work Max into the lineup and see what he can offer.
I think we make the NCAA this year and win two games, this would be considered making NOISE.
If everyone who can returns next year, we should be a top 10 team capable of reaching the Final 4.
