NYTimes SJU over NDU

Personally I thought the article focused too much on Notre Dame and we were the afterthought

Article had nice things to say about our very young and undermanned team.

There is no harm in getting ink from a hometown non-tabloid, even if it mentions the other team we're playing (which had a nine game winning streak and their star player out and a very good coach). ND haters, i guess. Sorry I posted the link, geeeze.

The title of the article is "Irish Regain Their Fight but Lose to Red Storm" how is this not a ND piece? Yes its good to get positive press from the big time nyc paper which also happens to be the most renowned paper in the country. But one would like to see it more focused on us winning than ND losing.

I am also a big ND football fan.

For the record ND fans were not obnoxious at all. I think them the nova, and pc fans were the a good group. Nothing at all like the horror show fans of Cuse, Uconn, or Gtown... the fans at those three school want to make me puke.

I would agree that the ND, PC and to some degree Nova fans are a cut above some of the rest. But individually as I have said on here before, you can find good and bad fans for every school, even our own.

Was a good article Brey could have given the Freshmen credit

Definitely.

I wrote this whole diatribe about how I cannot stand the "fake" Irish fans, wearing all those clownish costumes like the ones they (ugh) wear to St. Patrick's Day parades, but I deleted it instead of submitted it. I kind of said my piece in the game thread on Saturday anyway.

We were crossing 8th about 15 minutes before the game and some guy next to us was all dressed up in a green and white top hat.
I told him he was 3 weeks early.
He asked "for what?", and I answered the parade.
Totally blank look on his face but got a good laugh from some of the red clads waiting at the corner.

Yeah, for some reason there is a phenomenon that allows Notre Dame to have gathered a rather large fan base just because their mascot claims the Irish nationality as their own. Maybe SJU should have changed to the Red Italianos or something of the sort so we could pack the games with a different nationality that can associate. :p

I'm as proud to be Irish as I am proud to be German, and, maybe I'm a fuddy-duddy, or it's because I am a Hibernian, those people who dress up like clowns are degrading and stereotypical to the Irish people (and the University, to a certain extent), and I don't like to see it. If they're the younger members of the crowd, teenagers and the underclassmen, then I kind of understand, but if you're pushing into your late 20s or 30s and dressing like that or getting annihilated in the name of being Irish. then I'm a little embarrassed for those people.

I find that most of the Notre Dame fans who come to MSG are really fans of the Irish football team, and really don't know much about the basketball team, beyond the name and star players. That's why they don't make much noise.

Kind of like most of us (myself especially) wrt the other St. John's sports.
