NYC players

We need to recruit kids who grew up in the city. They have the stomach and backbone to fight like Ponds. Watching the "out of towners" play against Arizona State it looked like they were scared.

I want good players from anywhere. The recruiting emphasis needs to be shifted to quality high school players mixed with transfers, grad transfers, and JUCOs. Seems like some transfers have the Henry Steele thing going on from One on One, except without the late season heroics off the bench.

As a lifelong New Yorker, I'd love to see more NYC area (emphasis on "area") kids on the team. But in the end, talent -- and character -- surpasses geography.

I’ll take a Figueroa any day and he’s not from NY. D’Lo, Hatten etc... We have too many guys that are trying to “do what they do”. Not enough guys like Figueroa diving for balls, playing at every comfort zone they can, just to win.

We can barely fill out a roster with us recruiting locally, nationally and internationally. We are in no position to pick and choose where we take kids from.

Agree, take good talent and solid character guys from wherever you can get them...and some 'height' to boot!
Lol.

Watching the NCAA tourney I see the Wofford, Belmont’s, Murray st etc compete. They do not get the highly rated recruits, yet they do a terrific job.

There are 100 high schools on L.I. And 200 more in the metro area. Most are not 4 or 5 star, but many are all league, all county, all city, etc. There must be some solid ball handlers, three ball shooters among them. There big guys among them. Other schools recruit them and many appear better than our guys.

Is it our failure to identify them. Is it our elite attitude thinking we are above this. I do not know, but it seems there is an untapped resource being ignored.

I'll take them anywhere we can get them but obviously if they're local even better. When Lav was here he got kids from all over the country. It can be done. NYC's top players don't stay home, this has been well-documented 99.9% of the time. We're much more likely to use selling NYC to a kid from Texas or something IMO than we are re-selling to NYC kids who grew up in the area.

And the local schools(Iona, FDU, etc) all seem to grab these 2 and 3 star local kids. Certainly we can use some of those same type kids to back fill our roster, and maybe one of them blows up like Ja Morant or Hashikawa. Or grows a few inches after high schoo like Pascal. I cannot recall one diamond in the rough that we’ve gotten here in a very long time.
