Nova Game-Shlitz Happens

We played a great 12 minutes in the first half.  Then......
we forgot to defend the 3
we forgot how to concentrate at the foul line
and we definitely forgot how to get open for an uncontested jump shot.

Players trending down: Champagnie, Alexander and Wusu
Players trending up: Wheeler, Coburn and Soriano

That trend tells you all you need to know about this loss.

Both Champagnie and Posh are having a very average Big East season.
Champagnie has especially regressed and has continued to show that he can't create his own shot or take over a game when needed.  That NBA 2nd round draft prediction must have been before the current slump.  Again, he's not NBA material from his performances this season but he may have already hit his peak as a college player.

Coach Anderson gets a B for making adjustments once Villanova started to get open 3s.
However, it's not his fault when your players shoot a lower percentage from the foul line than Nova shoot from the 3 point line.  These guys need a 100 shot drill at the end of every practice.

I love the energy Nyiwe and Stanley bring when they come in.  Hopefully they develop an offensive game.
Finally, Pinzon travels with the team but is still unavailable which is puzzling given the coach has not given any definitive reason for his benching.  Hopefully he is getting the appropriate medical care if it is long Covid related. This is a player who could have helped when Wusu, Posh and Smith have rough outings.

How many more wins do you see ? Maybe Georgetown.  Split with DePaul maybe. If you are watching Providence - Marquette now these two teams are not wins. Creighton, Villanova, UConn, Xavier ( 2 times )  Butler.  Could easily go
2 - 7.  NIT could be a reach.  Good thing for the ridiculous non - conference schedule !!

Should be interesting how many players go into Transfer Portal this year.

First of all, the transfer portal is killing the traditional college game where teams can build on recruited players and their experience together as a group.  This pandemic hardship crap has to stop!  Only the coaching staff knows who the unhappy campers are and they will recruit other unhappy campers from other programs.
This is not a good recipe for a winning team. It takes a couple of seasons to mold players into a cohesive unit..

As for predicting wins for St. Johns, they are unpredictable.  The backcourt is not as sound as projected and when Posh is off, the entire team is affected.  Champ is having a mediocre year. He has proven easy to defend so Wheeler has become more important in games. When they both underperform you can bet on a loss.
They can win every remaining home game if they play like the first 15 minutes of the Nova game.
We shall see.

The game is longer than 15 minutes !!

True Charlie but we need to play the last 15 minutes of every game like we played in those 15 minutes at Nova. Better still, we showed we can play 40 minutes of aggressive, organized ball at Seton Hall.  The X factor has been Champ not playing like Champ.
