"Let's call it what it is, St. John's just punched their ticket to the NCAA tournament."

Good ol Steve Lavin said this in the postgame after our big win against #13 Villanova Sunday night. Lavs was clearly excited for us, and I gotta say it is nice to see he is clearly still pulling for the Johnnies.

However that quote was a bit of wishful thinking on his part, and FS1 brought in a bracketologist a couple minutes later who kind of reeled in the excitement over the Redmen. He told Lavin they were not a lock yet, and there was still work to be done. Lavin joked around with him and smiled, but he was, unfortunately for us, wrong.

The mighty Red Storm are 19-8 (7-7) and as of now are firmly in the NCAA tournament. However, we enter a final stretch that will be challenging.

I have seen a ton of misrepresentation on this board about where exactly we are on the bubble or in the field, so let me make this very clear.

If we go 2-2 in these last four and finish 9-9 in conference we are going dancing. Do NOT have to win in the BET at that point, we will be in the dance. IF we finish 1-3 or worse, it does start to get a little dicey for us. I think if we finish 1-3 and 8-10 in conference we could still very well sneak into a play in game or something, but I really do not wanna find out.

So 9-9 is the bare minimum goal for this team. And with that being said the path is clear, win your last two home games and punch your ticket. We matchup well with Seton Hall, and that game is essentially a must win at this point. I am just going to hold out hope we win that game, as of now I am confident.

Now, the other game. Against X. If you think we got bullied inside against Providence, allow me to introduce you to Tyrique Jones. In his last two games, both wins against Seton hall and PC, Jones put up double doubles in both, 18-15 and 19-12. Even the big and athletic Nate Watson had his lunch money taken over and over by Jones. Luckily, this game will be at CA where we have yet to lose this season with our full roster playing. Also, Marv plays well at CA but he will be tested big time against X. I do not know how we keep Jones off the boards, but if he kills us and beats us at CA, there is no reason to believe we win in Cintas. And the DePaul game is still a wildcard.

So, what I am saying, is going 2-0 in these upcoming home games is a necessity at this point. No excuses, these players need to bring it and they need win these two home games. Go SJU

You hit the nail on the head. Another key will be where PC and Georgetown wind up in the NET rankings. If they both stay in the top 75, then 8-10 could get you in. If both drop back, then I think you need 9-9. Also have to root hard for our OOC opponents. Our OOC SOS has moved between the 190s and 210s. It would be really beneficial for it to wind up 199 or better. The optics are just so much better. You blend in rather than standing out. Really not much of a difference between 162 and 196. But, 200 catches your eye.

As of today I would think we are about a 9 seed. But, a lot can change over final 4 games and BET.

2-0 on the homestand would make my upcoming Florida trip a lot more relaxing B).

it's a must win for Seton Hall also. I have no way to predict if we go 2 and 2 or blow each game. No one does. We will be maybe 3.5 over the Hall, and same or less vs. X, depending on how the hall game goes We will be around pick em against Depaul, or slight dogs, and getting 4 or 5 on the road against X. So every game is up fro grabs, which makes me uncomfortable.

I’m in awe of your confidence for the Hall game, Jack.
At this point, I’m an agnostic on our chances to win another game this year.
They have the talent, the grit, the focus...every now and then.
I just don’t know but am hoping and will root like hell the team can muster the will to win 2-3 critical games, to not just make the Dance but to get a seed that won’t prove fatal.
