NIT
If we lose to DePaul on Wednesday do we choose to go to the NIT?
No because Lou C always loved the NIT and Mullin will not want to disappoint them. Some will also see this as progress.

Assuming school has the option of not going if invited, should be whatever the kids want to do. They may well want to play a few more games and if so, more power to them. As a fan, I personally don't care about NIT this year.

Hopefully its not the NIT, but would be a bad look for SJU players and coaches not to accept any invitation it would receive.

Of course they should accept. It would be unacceptable to not do so. The NIT is a legitimate post season consolation tourney. If that’s the fate of this team they should go and represent. It would also give these kids the chance to play in the post season together. Not going would solidify what I fear is a growing reputation around college BB regarding the dysfunction of the program.

The NIT should be a play-in tournament for the NCAA.

Okay let’s be clear here. Mullin is not a good coach ( that’s been established). That being said stop bringing up this NIT nonsense.

SJU has been locked in that 10th spot for three weeks straight and the number one bracketologist ( Jerry Palm) still has us in that 10th spot which means the voters already have it in their head we’re playing that 7-10 game. You’re not going to go from 10th to the first four out with one more loss. This doesn’t even count the fact we finished 4-2 against the three strongest big East teams with a now great win over VCU.

Stop with the NIT talk and let’s focus on trying to win a Big East championship if possible.

Absolutely go, and if the stars look like they are only going through the motions, yank them and play Williams, Roberts, Earlington, and Trimble together. I don't think LJ is a going-through-the-motions guy, so he can be out there with them.

That is a good suggestion. I wonder if there would be enough time to play the NIT games before the NCAA starts?

It would be impossible. The tournament would have to start a month later to accommodate the NIT. And then the winner of the NIT would be too dead-legged to do anything of note.

Sure there is! There is a whole day between selection Sunday and the first 4 games in Dayton which start on Tuesday. Plenty of time for a 32 team tournament.

Palm knocked us down to an 11 this morning, and he's been the friendliest to us, of all the bracket guys, so the NIT is definitely in play here.

That being said, I can still forsee us going to Dayton, even with a loss on Wednesday. A loss in Dayton would certainly suck, but a win there may give us an advantage in the Round of 64, which I've talked about many times in the past.

Obviously a major disappointment if we don’t make the big dance with all the expectations. But let’s not forget this program has been to 6 NCAA tournaments in the last 25 years. Two bids in the last 16 years. Would be comical for any program with a resume like that to turn down the NIT.

League tournaments are already play-ins for the NCAA. If we opt to play in the NIT, we'd be one or two and done, anyway.

We are .... St.John’s. Don’t forget Lew Alcindor was strongly considering St. John’s until Joe Lapchick was forced to retire.
