Nike gear on bookstore site

[quote="RedStormNC" post=355448]Got email notice/link ...It's awful....plain, generic options to start.

If they could even just offer 1-2 of the decent ones, with old style font logo....anything but this trash. Can only hope it gets better.

Told everyone weeks ago they were getting hopes up for no reason. Out of the gate it was going to be plain Jane. Production timelines. I’d expect to see more either when school year starts or before season begins.

Not sure why you keep expecting people around here to be reasonable... ;)

I was one of those who popped out of bed this morning and raced to the website to check out the gear and place a first order. Yes, it was a bit underwhelming. But I ordered the one t-shirt I liked and I'll eagerly await the the expanded offerings in the fall.

I get that it would be minimal in qty and style up front, but it's not like our St. John's old font logo needs to be created.. It already exists.. or even a basic t-shirt with a decent sized STJ logo.

yet they bother to make shirts with the Thunderbird that no one recognizes.

Have to agree that putting the Thunderbird on the Polos makes no sense. Maybe put it on a little kids shirt.

just took another look.... many of the items show availability as "Backordered"

what a weak launch...

I got enough SJU/Nike stuff in my closet and cabinet from the first time around (and it still fits).

It's actually scary you said that, I'm currently wearing an old Nike SJ shirt that DOES fit! But it's a Large lol. Been hitting the gym a lot more so who knows, maybe I'll be back to Medium in time for the season! In all seriousness though, I actually thought some of the shirts were cool. Nothing fancy obviously, but hope there's cooler stuff down the road. The thing I just don't understand is: what in god's name is so hard about listening to fans literally begging the school to offer something, ANYTHING with the old school Red Sox style font logo?! The recipe for tons of sold out shirts, sweatshirts, etc. is there...fans have told them. But for whatever reason they just seem to refuse to offer that logo on any shirts/sweatshirts. I maybe saw 1 someone on here posted, but it was very plain and you had to really dig. If they just put "St. John's Basketball" in the cool font on a Nike Dri-fit t-shirt with a simple outline of a basketball or net in the background, it would instantly sell out 100%. Same with sweatshirts in fall/winter. Did it not cost a ton of money to get that new alternate logo? Why not actually use it and make money off it?

I have that 19nine shirt. Its OK , but material wise was thin.
I went to a pre game reception at Advocare tourney in FL two seasons ago. Red White club had giveaway shirts. UA Polos, a few tees, and one was a white tee shirt w/ full "St. John's Basketball" logo in old style font with a half bball image too. So they can print them, give them out selectively to team and events, but choose not to make more of them available for general sale.

It's just stupid marketing IMO. This is the type of thing I figured Cragg would laugh at given the incompetence and fix immediately. Maybe they will be offered soon enough and they're being made. Let's hope. Such an easy fix and this has literally been years in the making. I have a Nike shirt from about 2012 that is gray with white lettering and red outline saying "St. John's Basketball" and it's very clean looking I still love it. Still not in that cool font which is the only thing that could make it better. There has to be a reason for this complete shutdown on fans being able to purchase gear with that font, no? Even the picture someone just posted of the 1 shirt that has it appears to be a separate company that isn't from our bookstore which would mean absolutely zero are available via the school store. I understand players getting some exclusive designs but I feel like it's silly at this point. As someone else said, the school has the logo and the rights to it. There's no logical reason this is still happening years later. We just posted ridiculously high attendance last year for the first time in a long time, and you don't capitalize on that? Jeez guys....hire me on the side as a fan representative and I'll gladly make them way more!

Seeing Johnny Thunderbird on apparel seems odd since he's only recognizable to St. John's fans, but have to start promoting him at some point. I'll give them credit for doing something new that could help our brand long-term. Having a recognizable mascot goes a long way.

That said, overall weak offerings. I'd like to see the NYC skyline, MSG (if possible), or something similar. Hopefully we'll see those type of designs later this year.

Agree with Moose that the poor selection is due to production timelines. That said, like recruiting, apparel improves with winning.

Winning cures all.

Cragg today

We launched yesterday some initial test designs (great response) but far from complete. We came to agreement with Nike on July 1 - the retail and team sides are gearing up as quick as they can. Next few months rolling out and by start of hoops season a nice selection available

Please don't use Red Sux and St. John's in the same paragraph.
