Next Year's Schedule

I know this topic has been brought up already but it is starting to concern me more after I heard that the committee said that Providence would not not have made the tournament if it had lost the Creighton game and Georgetown was in the last four out with a terrible record but some quality wins. Anyone know who we will play non-conference besides at Syracuse next year. Beside getting a faster start in the conference schedule, we need more quality wins outside the conference. I hope we play some better teams to boost our RPI which was rather sickly this year.

In hopes that this might end up the official schedule thread we should all report out data here so different folks don't ask the same questions every other day.

My input.

2 bunnies and then 2 of Georgia, Minnesota and Gonzaga in the Pre Season NIT.

We were one win out of he tournament. The schedule was fine if we had taken care of business. We were not smu.

We were not one win out of the tournament. We had one top fifty win and the committee would not have given Providence a bid if they lost the BET. Xavier isin a play in game and they beat Tennessee and Cincinnati. There is Big East bias and we need quality wins better than Georgia Tech and San Francisco.

RPI seemed really out of whack all across the board this year. First time I've ever felt that way. It was the A-10's best friend and the Big East's worst enemy.

Are we not owed a Duke game? Syracuse away is guaranteed and I guess Fordham in the holiday festival is expected.

We are a one seed in the nit. We beat providence in the be tourny and we were in. We were one win out.

Don't know if that's true after the committee said providence would've been out had they lost to Creighton in the finals. Thats what we initially believed that the providence game was a play in game but we were misleaded I think.

Based on the seedings in the Ncaa I dont think that is correct.

Our only quality win was Creighton and that won't be a quality win next year when they don't have Doug, so the non conf schedule needs to be better.

Great point, and really why I was focusing on BPI and Ken Pom rankings as well to get a feel for where team were at.

That doesn’t make any sense. I don’t have anything against upgrading the schedule per se but what does having only 1 quality win have to do necessarily with strength of schedule? You could have a ridiculously strong schedule and only have 1 quality win, simply because you lost to all your better opponents.

SJU did play Villanova twice, Syracuse, Wisconsin, Xavier twice etc. The problem was they went 0-6 against that lineup. SJU had opportunities this year to get quality wins they just failed to close on most of them.

I agree and three of those games should have been wins but the loss to DePaul was a killer. Losing at home to Xavier removed us from NCAA consideration unless we won the Big East. A 22 win season and one win in the Big East would have put us in a likely 12 seed. The bottom line is our team had poor chemistry in many games and rarely did all 5 guys come ready to play. One game it would be Harrison pulling his last five minute act, the next it was Sanchez or someone else not being on the same page. One has to hope that by next year these guys will gel like the Roberts seniors and that we sign impact 2015 recruits who play better as a unit. These are the challenges that Lavin and Chiles face and they need to get more aggressive on the recruiting trail. The NIT is a good start to impress local recruits but they need an impact signing to stay relevant.

Ok the make the win nova or cuse and we were in. Point is we had he opportunities. We didn't have a top 10 sos but we didn't have a 300 sos. We had enough chances to get wins. I wouldn't mind seeing a little harder sos but that isn't the reason we didn't dance.

My view is if we're going to give coach Lavin $2+million per year for the next five or six years to be the great recruiter that he is, we need the staff to deliver a top 25 capable roster and we need to be playing a top 25 - 30 SOS every year. No more Monmouth, Longwood, Youngstown State. Everybody beats up on one cupcake per year. Georgetown wacks St. Leo's, etc. I don't like it but I get it for one time per year.

recruiting wise, id like to play either Texas or LSU or Florida. we've been visiting those states for blue chips. home and home would only help

Exactly. SJU had opportunities. The schedule wasn’t terrible.

They failed to close on some of them. Lead with 4 minutes to play against Syracuse and lose. Tied at 50-50 late against Villanova, lose. Tied 60-60 against Creighton late and lose.
