New York State to contribute $20M to help Syracuse University pay for renovations to the Carrier Dome

They should gave sent the state inspector to Carnesecca to check out the bleachers as a more needed use to serve public good...

I would complain but didn’t NYS just give us money to help us with our new nursing program and medical facilities?

As an SJU fan who just sent a hefty check to NYS for income taxes, I just want to say I'm glad I'm helping Syracuse basketball succeed.

There was a published report that Syracuse University may attempt to resell the name of the facility known as the Carrier Dome.

The dome is named after Carrier Corporation which was headquartered in Syracuse, New York. At the time the dome was being constructed Carrier Corporation was the take over target of United Technologies Corporation. As the takeover was concluding, Carriers’ President Mel Holmes purchased the naming rights in 1979 for $2.75 M to memorialize the company’s name.

A recent news article indicated that some SU administrators are of the opinion that the 1979 agreement may be void because the entity that the agreement was with (Carrier Corp) no longer exists, as a result of merger and reacquisition of UTC. No doubt that whatever entity today manufactures under the name “Carrier” would disagree and such disagreements are what lawsuits are sometimes based.

The irony is that Syracuse university does not even come close to filling its smallish stadium for football games.

The Carrier Dome has a seating capacity of 45,057 and the average attendance last season was 31,941 being 30% empt which makes the investment by NYS taxpayers seem even more senseles.
