Never Been This Excited

Look, I'm just as nervous as the next guy about this year's recruiting class but how can we not believe Lavin's promises of a gem of a class. Everyone was thrilled with last year's recruits as was I; however I was never this excited since Mahoney garnered Lopez and Hamilton.
How about positive comments about guys like Sampson. I want him as much as you do but we really don't know what we would do in his position. Heck, look at all that attention he is getting, plus he may have already told Lavin he'll return. I will continue to get up every morning, go to Redmen.com and hopefully see Sampson to the Johnnies. And if not, know Lavin will have a backup. Never been this excited!

Last year the timing of the commits were spread out. This year we have waited all year and anticipoation is high.

The one fear that I have about this recruiting class is that all of the anticipation might lead up to a tremendous letdown in April. Don't get me wrong, I firmly believe Lavin will make good on his claim that he has a stellar class coming in. But the fact of the matter is that outside of JaKarr Sampson and Christopher Obekpa, there aren't any big names on the STJ list any longer. In no way is that slight to players like Carlos Morris, Thaddeus Hall, and Keon Pledger ... trust me, I'm sure if our staff is going after them they feel that they will be able to contribute to the team next year. And from what I've read about all of them, they all have strengths that could help STJ tremendously next season. But fans generally count of the success of the recruiting class by rankings and if, say, STJ was able to land a class of Obekpa, Morris, and Hall, it's not going to look quite as sexy as three players in the top 100.

Again, I trust Lavin and his staff and I have confidence that he's recruiting these players because he firmly believes they are going to be solid Big East players next year and down the line. But fans are fickle and I don't want them to get bloated expectations about what we are potentially bringing in next season.

How can you call fans fickle coming off a 13 win season? You are what your record says you are and everything else is speculation. We have a few tweets from Lavin but nothing to back it up. I guess I have bloated expectations because I realize what we need to get back on track. I'll wait till the returns are in before I start cheering though. I don't think trust differs much from wishful thinking right now but that's OK if we sign some kids.

Of COURSE Lavin has to hype the incoming class. To sell a single recruit, a kid has to be confident that he will be joined by other top talentso Lavin has to tell anyone who will listen that he is confident this will be a top recruiting class. Last year he delivered even though he started the year in the sub-basement.   He delivered top talent to UCLA year after year, and he doesn't have anything to prove in this regard to anyone, except maybe Bobre

I was honestly way more excited last year after the season ended than I am now.

I am now more cautiously optimistic about next year considering the steps back that we took this season.

One thing is for sure in my eyes, next year is a pivotal one in Coach Lavin's tenure at STJs.

I still think he will get it done...said in a cautiously optimistic tone.

Honestly...I was excited last year and dreading this past season. I knew we'd take our lumps and it could be tough to watch but it is what it is. Contrary to that, I'm VERY excited for next year. Whats the best thing about freshmen? They become sophomores ;)

Unless they leave!

Everyone was excited after last year. Lavin took Norms underachieving team and had a great year. We were anticipating Pelle, Moe and Sampson along w the others. We still have many questions re this years recruiting and Moes decision. We will all have to wait and see.

You do realize that calling them underachievers requires that you give Norm credit for recruiting them. He just couldn't coach. Actually I'd be thrilled if Steve landed a similar class this year with DJ,, Horne, Brownlee etc. They were good kids.
