Since you are referencing a political figures who was a driving force in ending apartheid, it reminds me that there are still two Americas - a black America where success is limited, and a white America (and many other shades in between). Perhaps in our lifetime we will see this bridged, and to be sure, we've made some progress, and again, don't want to debate opinions of why.
But while we stop and memorialize Nelson Mandela, if we care a shred, we have to recognize that we have a long, long way to go until there is true racial equality.
