SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) — Notre Dame will be in the Big East at least one more season. Athletic director Jack Swarbrick said Thursday the university has said all along it would like to leave the Big East for the Atlantic Coast Conference before the required 27 months’ notice for departing members, but was unable to reach an agreement to do so before next season.

Men’s basketball coach Mike Brey first brought up the subject during his teleconference Thursday, saying one reason Notre Dame decided to stay another season is it believes the seven Catholic schools that have decided to leave and form their own league will remain in the Big East next season.

Swarbrick says he will continue to negotiate with the Big East for Notre Dame to leave the league before 2015.

Does this extension buy us time for negotiating with ND to bring them to the C-7 for all sports but football?

no.

the key to this story is whether the c7 is negotiating with the rest of the big east on remaining in the conference. if something can be worked out....

Does it also show the C7 will remain in the conference long enough to keep the "Big East" name with them?

I read the thread title very fast the first time. I thought it said "ND to stay Catholic for 2013-14" before I read it again.

How ironic! LOL!
ND, of all the Big East Catholics, is probably the most "Catholic"! What Irish, Catholic parents did not dream of their little Coleens and Kevins going to Notre Dame.....or Manhattan College.....or Iona.......and if they did not get into those hallowed Irish Cathloic schools, send them to St. John's or Fordham, where their kids would have to mingle with the I Talian kids from Brooklyn or the Bronx. Their worst fear, of course, was that their Coleen would meet and marry a Mario and break the chain.
