If you have a soft spot for the underdog, like I do, then here is a team to get behind and root for to make this year's tournament field of sixty-eight.
Since 1901 (for students of history the end of the William McKinley administration) the St. Francis Terriers have had a men's basketball program. Despite over eleven hundred school victories they have never been in the NCAA tournament!
That is hard to believe, but it is true that it has never happened ever!
However this year under Norm Roberts buddy and former St. John's assistant Coach Glenn Braica the Terriers are on a roll and history could be made. The Brooklyn school has won nineteen of its last twenty-two games and are the number one seed in the NEC tournament. Tomorrow at two PM they will meet their name twin St. Francis of Pa. in the semi-finals. If they win that game they will move on to the finals where they would face the winner of the Robert Morris - Bryant matchup.
Here is hoping that Coach Braica and the Terriers win the NEC tourney and break this NCAA tourney drought that has reached epic proportions.
