NCAA Grants Extra Year of Eligibility to Winter Sports Athletes

This is significant, especially if there is a season this year.

If I am reading this correctly, we could potentially have a guy like Toro for this season and next (if he took that option).

EVERYBODY that plays this year could get an extra year of eligibility

We'll also have Caraher for an extra year. And we'll see at least one article about how he's juggling a major D1 schedule with law school.

Is an expanding roster including newcomers and those who choose the extra year going to lead to an NCAA exception for a number of years on roster limits?

Yes. It will create even more havoc with college football. Their scholarship limit is 85. With an average freshman class of 25 scholarship recruits, colleges could potentially have as many as 110 players on scholarship next year. Many schools will not want (or be able) to commit the resources to have that many football players go to school for free.

So many unknowns here. Don't see most kids wanting to stick around for 5 years with little to no compensation, unless they are true "student athletes" and looking to continue their education and still play ball. And don't see a kid elevating their stock all that much by sticking around another year when they're 23 or 24 years old. By that point, they should have a pretty good handle on if and where(NBA, D league, Europe, etc) they can be playing pro ball. Lots of changes in "amateur " sports. It'll be interesting to see how things play out moving forward.
