NBCSN shutting down.. are FS1 ratings strong?

Just saw this news that NBC Sports Network (NBCSN)  will be shutting down at year end and moving live sports to USA Network.  They have A-10 conf. games.

I don't follow media / ratings stuff, but know cable tv is under pressure. Made me think about long term viability of FS1/FS2.  While Big East, has long term deal, does anyone know if these Fox subsidiaries doing OK overall?

Pretty sure NBCSN was in less households than USA Network.  And with their Peacock streaming platform they are trying to push more content there.

Fox Sports has done well.  Remember they have many more colleges besides the Big East.  And FoxSportsGo was an early streaming option.

I think network revenue and market share is in Moose's wheelhouse.

*Whoops, bit slow on the submit button.

My brother in law in post production in the t.v. biz, mentioned years and years ago, DVDs were going to become a relic, everything was going to be streamed, in 2008 I thought he was crazy.

He also said, broadcast networks were dinosaurs.

And that some day, you would pay for every show you watched, a la carte.

Fine by me. Of myriad options on TV, I only watch a small fraction anyways. I suspect most people do. Mike Maher not being "most people". He seems to catch every single thing on TV. Sure wish it was MSNBC that was shutting down instead  lol.

They also broadcast Premier Leauge Soccer and Serie A, although a few top PL games make it to the main network.

With the Bundesliga switching to pay ESPN+, it follows that PL and Serie A will go the same route with Peacock, shame, as it was nice to pick up the odd PL game onNBCSN.

Serie A is ESPN+ with Bundi.  Serie A was never on NBC.  They switched from BEINsports.

You will still get big time PL games on big NBC I'm sure.  And USA will likely get some also on weekend mornings I'm sure.

Thought I saw some Serie A weekday games on NBCSN recently but maybe it's just my addled brain, probably on ESPN2.

I will miss Premier league games on NBCSN. Was the only thing I watched on that network and I refuse to pay for another streaming service like Peacock, just to watch PL games there, which are not free.

And Moose is right. I've only seen Serie A games on ESPN networks, never on NBC networks. And I've never seen LaLiga or Budesliga games or any other league because they require you to purchase additional channels from Optimum. Which I won't do.

We really have to root for FS1 to do well.  When the Catholic 7 was formed, it was largely because Fox had an offer on the table that would provide member schools with $3 million per season.   I don't know if that's been diluted with the expansion of the league, offset with an increased totat payout, or if each member school gets even more, but suffice to say, the Big East is comprised of mostly smaller schools who really need that money flowing into athletic departments to remain competitive.

Hoping some one can explain some things I don't fully understand re: streaming platforms.

I get how cable TV operates, and "value" there is picking the "packages" I want and get easy acess and one bill (realizing I'm also paying a bundle fee for channels I never watch and paying more than I like).

Flip side, I get how streaming platforms allow to just pay for that you want that they offer.  Ex. for many, there many only be 5-10 channels they really watch in a month. As well, see benefit in how a platform like Netflix, ESPN+ etc. offers direct streaming for on-demand replays, exclusive programming and even live events.

What I don't get is that if I want (and willing to pay) ESPN+, Netflix, Amazon Prime TV, Peacock, Fox Sports Go or any others that come out of interest, I can subscribe and I know I can get all these apps on my phone or computer... but are all of these individual platforms easily available through a Smart TV these days?  Maybe it's because I have an older Smart TV  (7 years old) but it seems like a real PITA to get "online" through my TV, except for Netflix or Hulu which have clearly selectable icons to get directly into.  Few times I needed to see St. John's game on ESPN 3 etc.  I had to hook up laptop to my computer.

Is my issue that I just have an outdated Smart TV that all these streaming services are not easily clickable (if I had a subscription to each) ?

It's just another money grab by NBC to get people to purchase the Peacock app.  It's dissappointing that the EPL won't have a free platform anymore if they don't put games on USA.  I hate to see everything migrating to these apps you have to pay for, especially something like ESPN+.  They barely play sports on ESPN, 2 and 3, now I have to pay more!  Same can be said for NBC.  The programing on a Saturday for NBC is garbage, they couldn't show the games there?  Just frushtrating.

Yep. As far as I'm concerned, NBC/MSNBC/etc can suck my peacock!

subscribed to Peacock Premium for 7 day free trial to catch ManU vs Liverpool in the PL.  Cancelled it two days later

There is no such thing as free television any more.  Cable providers pay hefty amounts for each and every channel.  A guy from my town was an exec at Cablevision and told me they made very little on tv, but a ton on internet and Voip.  Any channel that grows in viewership crushes the cable providers when the contracts are up
