N.Y. Post / Saturday Jan. 26

Be carefull when providing links here that contain any negativity. Some here will question your "agenda". LOL!

Could you imagine the reaction by a few here if I wrote the following :

"The 2010-11 team made its run against a who’s who of college basketball: Duke, UConn, Pitt, Marquette, Cincinnati and Villanova. This three-game win streak came against a soft Notre Dame team, a bad DePaul team and a schizophrenic Rutgers team.
After Seton Hall and DePaul, the Johnnies begin a grueling four-game stretch beginning Feb. 2 at Georgetown.
After that stretch, we’ll have a better handle on this St. John’s team.
If the Red Storm get to 6-3, they very easily could fall to 6-7. Then the NCAA Tournament dream likely would be put on hold for another year."

I think what he said was pretty fair, but DePaul is better than people think, and if Nova can beat L'Ville and Cuse back to back, anyone can do it. Any team can have a bad day or have a miracle shot drop against them. I think the NCAA's are possible only if we beat a team like Cuse or L'Ville to give us our 3rd signature win, end up with at least a .500 conference record, and win 1 at least 1 game in the Big East tourney. Sometimes it's better not having a target on your back as a top 5 team as Nova has proven. Hopefully we can be that snake in the grass and get a miracle win against 1 of them and handle the lower-tier opponents. I think the biggest key is if we get Lawrence or not. He seems like the can't miss local guy that we will all look back and say "he could have brought us back to national prominence" if we don't get him.

As I have said repeatedly it would be very nice to get Lawrence from a recruiting standpoint as it would bring positive attention to the program and keep us in the discussion with top level recruits.
Having said that if everyone returns next season and continues to improve we will be a very good team.
Jakaar is already a very good player having won more BE freshman of the week awards than any other freshman in the conference and Sir Dom seems to have found a role he is flouroushing in. We will have CO and GG at the 5. There are only so many minutes to go around and only 1 ball.
He will not be the player to bring us back to prominence as those players are already on the team. The staff has to determine how to get the talented group we have to play as a cohesive unit and to the best of their abilities. If they can do that , as they have recently shown, we will be just fine.Remember next year we become a team of upper classmen. Few freshmen are as good as seasoned upper classmen and if you look at the current high school ranking Jermaine is ranked no higher than Sir Dom or Jakaar were, but they will have had a great deal of experience over him.

I go into every game believing we will win; however playing Cuse and Louisville on the road doesn't look promising. Nova had excellent ball movement against Syracuse's zone, hit the guy around the foul line and then the cutter underneath. Of course, Nova was popping their three pointers to help widen the zone. Don't really see us shooting the threes consistently. Hope I'm wrong.

Robbins is pretty much on target with his assessments of ND, DePaul and Rutgers.. We shoud have beaten the Knights the first time too but, didn't.

Nova is this year's Cinderella at this point. They have the outside shooting game that we don't and coupled with our lack of a post game, it's difficult to see us beating Syracuse,L'ville on their home court.

And, Jay Wright's team plays smarter BB than we do. They get the ball moving around the Court, we dribble it around aimlessly..As has been said, we rely on individual one on one play to get the ball in the basket. Sometimes it works but, it's not pretty basketball . Both, the Depaul and Rutgers games were ugly games to watch.

Nevertheless, if we win the Hall game and rematch with DePaul a 6-3 record is not bad at all. Going forward we still have USF and Providence, winnable games. Uconn will be a challenge, although we are the hometeam..

G'town again Syracuse,L'ville are stretches but, upsets do occur

I think it's really important to note that both big wins for Nova came at home. While they are still very, very impressive and great for our new league, I think it says much more to go into someone's house and do it. Can't see them pulling it out with 30k fans at the carrier dome or yum center.
