N.Y. Post / Mike Vaccaro / Mullin / Xaverian H.S. / Coach Carnesecca

In comments on the bottom of the Vesci page he talks about stoop ball . How many of you ever played stoop ball ?  Where ?  I  played in the Boulevard Gardens in Woodside on 56th St.

Flatbush for me, stickball 3 sewers and stickball against the school wall, with the strike zone done in chalk, if the ball had chalk strike, no chalk ball.

Also slapball, punch ball, Johnny on the Pony.

Cmon--stickball still number one street game.  Remember hiding the bats under cars whenever cops drove up the block as they thought they were weapons to be confiscated.  We had are 50th annual "old timers game" in 2019 (had to skip 2020 due to covid for first time).

I played stoop ball, stick ball, fast pitching, and Stonewall Jackson at PS 73 in Maspeth.

Stoop ball and stick ball on Dekalb Ave between Wilson and Central Aves in Bushwick. It wasn't easy, since Dekalb was/is a main 2 lane thoroughfare starting in Ridgewood, Queens and running all the way down to Flatbush Ave. Lots of buses and other traffic. It taught you to develop peripheral vision and quick reaction time.

Almost daily stick ball in my friend's driveway in Flushing. Some stoop ball against my front steps, punchball sporadically but nowhere near as much  as stickball.

Julian Champagnie's play this season has become reminiscent  of Mullin's play at StJohn's.

Each game this season it seems that Julian hits the shot that needs to be made when it needs to be made, and at the end of the game I am suprided at how many silent points and rebounds he has made.

From all reports Julian is a winner oin and off of the basketball court.

Sincethere were few cars in the 50s these games were possible . As traffic increased we endeds up in the school yards . PS 151 was the place for us .

Played stick ball, stoop ball, punch ball and fast pitch growing up in East Harlem.
Tony, where and when in East Harlem?  I spent my first 3 years there before my parents moved us out to ex-potato fields Syosset on LI in 1955.

I would say that of the players that I have seen, the 3 that score the most effortlessly are Champ, Mullin and Sealy.

Played a lot of stoopball.  I can't tell you how many storm windows and screens I destroyed.  After stickball I discovered wiffleball which was played out of the driveway into the street.
