Mullin's Maniacs Group

Just wanted to tell everyone we are disbanding and getting rid of the Twitter page. Unfortunately the hashtag has become nothing short of a cesspool and as I've said there is a huge troll group on there who would rather rile everyone up, attack players, and attack coaches instead of root for the program. We had nothing but good intentions and even guys like Cragg asked us to keep it, but the truth is it just got to be a headache. I learned that though there are real forces for good out there and no matter how much some people try to do a positive thing, there will unfortunately always be a big contingent of negativity and attacks for no other reason than stirring the pot. You block trolls or people making attacks and then 5 more come out of the woodwork the next day. Sad state of affairs but it is what it is.

Thank you to all who helped out and those who came out to the meet up. We both have full-time careers and spent countless hours and thousands on this thing. We are a very unique fanbase in some good ways and also some sad ways.

No comparison.

I’m in no way diminishing the work that Paul and the mods do everyday, but dealing with various trolls on social media platforms it’s a lot worse than anything I’ve seen on here.

I've followed the whole thing that transpired on social media. The trolls made an inference that might have affected one of their careers. This is a forum, twitter is a cesspool.

For the uninformed and curious, what happened?

One of the two of them has a profession working with kids. One of the trolls said something joking about them sexually harassing a kid/student. It was in poor taste and could affect ones job if seen by higher ups even though it was an obvious troll job.

Disgusting. I’m really sorry to hear this but nothing surprises me with social media. Only 31 and have completely dropped Facebook, Instagram etc. over the years. Redmen.com is the only online trace I’ve kept!

Which one said that?

Beast, on one hand it definitely does make me appreciate the mods here more for sure, but our hashtag on Twitter is a free for all. Joking every so often is fine but these guys repeatedly cross the line. Really disgusting and like I said, Cragg, Mullin’s fam, and various SJ admin have seen how awful it is.

Yes social media is really awful but you are always welcome here despite what happened in the past.

Thanks, I do my best to live it down but always have the target on my back it seems. I'd like to meet the guys behind the accounts in real life and ask face to face what their deal is. I'm out there in public showing my face, not as a threat but just man to man see what the deal is. Apparently they golf at Lido Beach Club and some if not all sit in 111 at MSG. One of them is an English teacher so these aren't some 16 yr old immature kids. You should be ready to defend what you post online in person or you shouldn't post it at all. I was dumb back in the day posting garbage but at least I can look back and call myself an idiot for those days.

Good. More discussion and less confrontation makes for good reads and a great site.

I'm not very active on Twitter, and not on Facebook at all. The big problem with social media is that people really and truly believe that they can say whatever they want, no matter how nasty, offensive, or untrue. The veil of anonymity is their shield, and these same guys would never say what they write about players and coaches to people's faces.

We've had a few of those on here, who would verbally assault posters under the veil of anonymity. He was relentless even when asked to stop. Using tiny bits of information about him and using skills that would make Dinkins proud, I figured out who he was and where he lived, and without revealing either, waited till the next time to acted up to post his mailbox as my avatar. That act has grown to legend on here, as I neither posted his name nor his address, but merely sent I message that I knew who he is and where he lived if he wanted to keep up his ridiculous behavior. Thankfully, after that we entered into a detente. The lesson is that bullies hate to be buillied themselves, and he whined loudly about that.

Very differently, a well known former poster threatened a now dormant poster here and posted pictures of the guy's wife online.

I know you had very good intentions for Mullins Maniacs, and too many people think that the failure of a program to produce winning basketball is reason to demean and insult everyone in the program way beyond made baskets, wins and losses, and X's and o's. Thankfully the season is over and I will once again go on hiatus.

Some guys here are great at that following recruiting, but i never do. I figure whomever shows up is when I become interested in them as SJU players. I don't go nuts over roster composition until it is final, so I don't worry too much over who is coming, going, or staying - either players or coaches. Once there is a vacancy, if there is one, I'll become active, or as we approach the next season.
