MSG

I understand this has been repeated in the past but MSG does not allow us to have a home court advantage. First off allowing them to sell opposition apparel, in this case Syracuse shirts shouldn't be allowed.  Security was confiscating posters that had no ill language on them. And the Garden has Orange and Knicks stuff all over the court. I understand Knick game tonight but plenty of time in between game to take a sticker off. The main way to correct all of this is winning but MSG needs to start doing their part.

Garden controls all concessions so they can sell whatever they want. We have no say.

The logo bothered me too but its not a sticker. Its new plates of hardwood for the center court logo.

We're figuring out the basketball end with Lavin. We just need some real business team with a pair of brass you know what's and not some pushover admins, who can demand some things from the Garden.

Moose is 100% correct. Every business deal has a price. For example, if SJU demanded that MSG sell only SJU apparel, if they sweetened the deal by guaranteeing say $100K-200K in annual sales, MSG may listen.

If SJU wants their logo at halfcourt, there's a price for that too. Don't cheap out - pay the money and make it look like a homecourt. Yea - it's important.

MSG is a business. SJU bball is a business. You want things to be a certain way, you make a business deal for the things you want.

I bet Mike Repole would gladly volunteer his time to negotiate the MSG deal. He is a sales and marketing genius and would know how to get what he wants in the best interest of SJU bball.

Mabe I am missing something, but I don't think so. I look at MSG and see a gorgeous New York City landmark. It is after all the "Worlds most famous arena". It is in the middle of the worlds most dynamic and cosmopolitan city. It is the the place where every kid loves to play in.Kids playing for teams from all over the country love to come there to play. They are in awe of this sports cathedral. What it is not is the home court of the St. John's University Basketball Team. Of course they are going to sell other team gear there. MSG is there to make money, Syracuse blew away a smaller but scrappy Red Storm team in their "home away from home".That is how the ESPN production closed. After all they had the majority of the seats filled. .
Because we play so many of our games there we start to think of MSG as our home court. I think that is not totally accurate. It is at best a neutral court to most of the bigger more glamorous teams because they have as many or more fans there than we do. Under those conditions we just cannot call it home.It is a matter of money. Money drives the wheel. Bigger teams want to play there and so do we it makes us look bigger than we really are.St. John's plays in one of the premier leagues in the country. Then we play some big out of conference games there. Glamor teams come in to play. Most of these schools bring in large contingents of their own fans, many times exceeding the fans sitting there in Red and White. These teams play us for a number of reasons , one being our tradition, another is our history but most of all to excite their kids and it helps their schools to recruit.
Those are all well and good, but that does not make for a homecourt advantage.
Only one thing will fix the problem once and for all. We need to replace our old arena and replace it with a state of the art on campus 10-11,000 seat arena. Now you have a true home court advantage. Oh I know we will not fill it they will fill it if we have a product that is worth them coming to see and with the Lavin era upon us we will indeed have the product. Build it and they will come. MSG costs too much of our home court advantage....Just talking out loud.

A home game and what is on center court KNICKS. That is terrible. I don't care what excuse they use to justify if.

WE can do that once we become a top 5 team who draws students and puts people in the seats

We play a lot of games at MSG so NYers have many opportunities to see us.Many other schools have a lot of NYC alumni and these games provide great opportunities for them to watch their alma mata play without having to travel. Also in the future when SJU becomes more competitive we ll see more fans at the garden, thats just the nature of the beast. Its tough playing Syracuse because at the carrier dome there are all Syracuse fans and a t MSG there are more SU fans than SJU fans.

Yep and then had about six hours after our game and before the Knicks game to change the court - inexcusable!

This is weak, there weren't ANY complaints last season for example when we played Duke and had the Knicks logo on the court. That's the least of our concerns with MSG imo.

Depends on the game, day of the week, time and whether or not the union is working to change out the court.

But a pro active admin would make it a requirement in the contract that while MSG revels in the concessions and merch money, they also swap out the center court logo. Watch NOVA games. Gtown too.

Remember the Golden Rule: He who has the gold makes the rules. Winning helps put fannies in the seats. Fannies in the seats helps make the Gold. This will come to pass.
