For those who don't have season tickets but are thinking of buying tickets to the Syracuse game, just an FYI. On the Syracuse fan site there is a thread for the our game vs them on 12/13. Not sure whether or not this is true, but a poster on that site is claiming that "MSG will be setting up 2-3 different price points for SyracuseFan.com members to buy in". Not sure if MSG does this with other schools (assuming it's true) but if it is true, you may want to get your tickets ASAP.

FYI, here is a link to the thread:

Of course it's true. It's their home game. MSG is their home on that day and every other day, especially with our depleted fan base and piss-poor student support.

Chris, relax! Better times are ahead.

We have never had what I would call a very strong student-base for attending games. That seemed to be based on not having on-site dorms and the pull of so many other activities. The dorms should have brought more students to games at both sites. I am not sure that it has.

Our traditional attendance fan base counted on alumni for filling the seats at both CA and MSG. Having an uneven BB record these past twenty years has hindered those numbers.

Many of us grew up with Coach C and a winning tradition. Unless your Cub fans, winning breeds attendance, especially at MSG seat prices.

With Coach Lavin we had too many starts and stops, involving players, illness, and uneven play.

We can only hope that Coach Mullin brings back that winning tradition in the years to come.

By the way, I always thought we more than held our own, attendance-wise, at MSG against Syracuse. It was the UConn games that I thought we were in the minority at MSG.

Pete, I don't hope Mullin brings us back to a winning program. I know Chris will, just look at his staff and the excellent recruiting thus far.

I've never heard people being so sure of something when a coach has yet to even sit on the bench in a coaching position, not to mention at the college level. Blind optimism at it's finest.

In addition to Syracuse, UCONN, Duke, and yes, Georgetown all have home games against us when they come to MSG. It would be nice if some day, hopefully soon, the tables are turned.

Georgetown? Lol. Did you go to the garden for the Georgetown game last year? It was 85-90 percent sju for that game. Our fans showed up big time for the Duke game too. We don't play UConn anymore. We weren't even top 25 at the end of the year, we were just good, and we had good attendance.

If we put a good product on the floor we will get fans to come out. I don't know how many times we have to go over that. Bitching about our "piss poor" fan support and then calling a poster who is excited about the direction of the program a "blind optimist" is a little counter productive, no?

Agree on the number of Garden games and CA is convenient to me. A lot of money for tickets to sit on a bench and get a bad back.

"Blind optimism"? You must be the type who sees a glass as fully empty and with arsenic on the side. Boo! Not a good way to go through life!

"Blind optimism" was expecting Coach Roberts to sign a Top 25 recruit in Year Three.

Unless someone is just emerging from their underground backyard 50's bomb shelter, this site, and the other one, has been full of "optimism". And why not?

No one expects us to win the NCAA title in 2016 or 2017. No one also does not expect us to challenge for the BE title in 2016.

And yes, Coach Mullin has yet to coach a game. But come on! It is sad that you do not see us moving forward as a BB program. A program that in a few months has accomplished a good deal, and with more positives on the way.

I, and I believe a good deal of the posters, have confidence in Coach Mullin. And if you do not see the "optimistic" opportunities ahead for St. John's, then perhaps it is you who is visually challenged. Good days are ahead, so give it a chance.

Definitely believe in Mullin for more than one reason. First and foremost is that he knows basketball like most of us know how to take a piss. The guy has almost no athletic talent except a little bit of height enough to make him a SG. He knows the game and how this stuff works at the most viceral level.

Second is that he knows SJU, NYC recruiting grounds and fans. It's not nostalgia to think he can make this work. He's very underspoken, and would never take the job if he didn't feel he could coach to the level he played.

I actually liked Lavin, but he was a fragile emotional figure. I thought he was a great recruiter at times but he was derailed by his cancer diagnosis and it lingered to the point where I thought it impaired him. I still think Lavin was a great guy, loved his players and was genuine.

Mullin a totally different type of guy and I think the type New Yorkers will love. No fluff, yet won't be scathing. Not the best guy for quotes, but a killer inside and one that native ny'ers know as an assassin.

Agree with everything (although as a geezer, I can do without the pissing reference), but think you may have sold Mullin a little short about having "almost no athletic talent except a little bit of height enough to make him a SG." There's more to athletic talent than being able to run fast and jump high (see NHL goalies) ... such as hand/eye coordination, quick reflexes, and peripheral vision, and Chris certainly excelled at those.

Yes I am

over the years I have found:

MSG games when we are bad:

Syr 75% and loud
UConn 65% and loud
GTown 45% not so loud

When we are good:

Syr 65% but they are louder
UConn 50% equal loudness
GTown 30%, we're louder

None of this relates back to the Mullin era. That was so loud the roof seemed like it was going to come off. Syr drew good crowds back then but so did we. UConn of course back then was a doormat. GTown never drew at the Garden like Syracuse.

I always found that the UCONN crowds had a lot to do with when the games were played. If it were a weekend game, they packed the place. Weeknights, they didn't come in nearly as full force. I think that's because their fan base came really from up and down the state of CT (as opposed to the Cuse, which has a strong NYC fanbase). That's a minimum 30 minute train ride from Grand Central, and the people from up north really are not going to take a long evening to see a game, when they had to work the next day. So, weeknight games with UCONN were not nearly as bad, regardless of the teams' records.
