Moving back to NY

What up everyone!!

So I graduated from SJU in early 2020. Obviously, ended up moving back home for awhile because of the pandemic.

Since then, it has been a weird period in my life. I have definitely posted less than i usually do as a result. My Dad (another proud SJU alum) was diagnosed with cancer this year and it has been a tough battle. But he just had a surgery this week that (hopefully) will put the whole thing behind us. There is still a lot of recovering to be done from the surgery, but hopefully the cancer will be gone for good.

Anyways, one constant in my life during these couple years. I miss New York. I have been dating this girl for awhile and she lives in Brooklyn. I'm planning to move in with her soon.

So I am planning a move back for early Feb. One problem, I need to find a job lol. I have been applying to places left and right and not much luck so far. I thought it wouldn't hurt to reach out to this network I have on this great website, knowing that so many of you still reside in the NY area.

So anyways, let me know if anyone out there is hiring. I am a hard worker. Have a degree obviously, and am currently enrolled in a masters program for teaching. But am open to working pretty much any job right now while I finish my masters. So anything is on the table.

Thanks for reading, and have a good one!

long term are you looking to be a teacher ?

Good luck Jack (and praying all goes well for your dad)

Wish i could help you on the job front, but  hopeful the network of guys here still in NY have some potential hookups for you or have a connection in NY.  Definitely did the right thing in asking...no shame in that

Stay positive and I'm sure you'll land a cool spot.  Hope one of the redmen.com crew can make it happen for you..

We can use good news around here, cause Anderson is not bringing any...lol

long term that is definitely the plan yes

Jack: Thoughts and prayers are with you, your dad and your entire family. Having gone through similar situations with my folks, I can certainly understand how you are feeling. Hope everything works out well for him.

In terms of employment, I can't be of immediate help but I was a high school principal on Long Island for many years. While I retired 17 years ago, I still might be able to help you navigate the education job market on the Island if and when you are ready. Feel free to reach out to me at that time.

prayers for your dad, he can beat it!

Jack, I am in NJ and not in the education field, but have you tried the SJU Placement Services, many years ago that is how I found a part time job at a small law firm in NYC while a second year L student. It is common for employers hiring to connect to their alma mater's Placement Services to "keep it in the family", at least back then in my case.

(If you've already tried it at Queens, ask Placement in Staten Island, you never know; if you tried this route already and it's been unsuccessful that is bad on their part).

Best of Luck.

Prayers for your father.  And best of luck with your job search.

If you’re looking for a career in education, might I suggest:
get that masters degree
become a professor at St John’s
become the President’s basketball whisperer
get us back where we belong!

Welcome to God's country from a Brooklyn born and bred and still here resident.  As BrookJersey Redmen suggested, call the SJU placement office.  Right now with the Covid crisis there are a lot of openings in teaching.  The Brooklyn Catholic schools have openings and NYC public schools are desperate as they have had high turnover and retirements.  Good luck in your search.
