Per ESPN this morning. Considering the fact that MSG is our 2nd home, thought it was worth a discussion. IMO it's Fenway, but I'm not much of a golf or horse racing fan.

yankee stadium
fordham university gym - oldest division 1 gym - the most basketball games played there than any other basketball venue.
rio's maracana stadium - 1950 - held a world cup

I'd have a hard time picking between Churchill Downs & Fenway both of which I've been to. Only reason I don't put MSG in a three way tie with those two is it's not the original MSG.

10 I don't think Yankee Stadium was included because it's not the original. Personally, I don't even consider the refurbished YS as the original, since it was so very different from the original original stadium. Also, this is only for American venues.

I'm not a fan of car racing, but think ndianapolis Motor Speedway should be there.

but that's a different debate if car racing is a sport.

Not sure how you can have Cameron Indoor Stadium on here. Think of it compared to MSG, where it's globally known and tourists come from all over the world to go to an event there. I don't believe the same can be said for Cameron.

Think Michigan Stadium might be more deserving as college spot.

107K capacity.

I can really only go by places I've been but I'd say Fenway but I'd have Wrigley in my top 5 also and definitely MSG

If you say msg, it's fair to think about the boston garden and l.a. staples center.   Wrigley. Fenway, yankee stadium,  maybe dodger stadium too.  Orange bowl maybe.  Churchill downs, Saratoga also

But you can't count Yankee Stadium because the version that has history and allure was torn down. The new Yankee Stadium in my opinion isn't great and certainly has no historical value.

Then you also have to exclude MSG.

Think of it as if you lived outside the US.
It’s not Fenway - most of America and half the world doesn’t shiv a git about baseball.
The world doesn’t shiv a git about American football.
And America doesn’t shiv a git about soccer to have an iconic stadium.
That leaves one American sport that has international pull: nba basketball.
And no place is more iconic than MSG.
who cares if it’s not the original. All the greats have played in that building from Chamberlain to Magic to Michael to Kobe and on and on…

What makes you think MSG is international renowned?

Since I'm the one who started the thread, I'm entitled to make the rules; Most iconic American(US) Venue to Americans. Who gives a crap what the rest of the world thinks /media/kunena/emoticons/wink.png
