Mike Rice

Unfortunately Rice seems like his true colors have been shown once again. It's a shame, he is good friends with DLo so it isn't good to hear this news of him getting thrown out of his sons basketball game

It does sound like it wasn't his fault but still bad press nonetheless

Your personality Jack like that of coach Rice was formed by the time you were a young teen. It will not change ever. I think he has learned to control his fiery personality and may have been targeted by an incompetent ref. Referees are people too who let their emotions rather than good judgment and the required thick skin influence their decisions some of which influence game outcome.

Jack it sounds as if you are talking out both sides of your mouth. First you say "unfortunately Rice shows his true colors again" then you say "it sounds like it wasn't his fault". You can't have it both ways. Now what you have done is open the board up to a day of Rice bashing.
If people in the stands say he was not involved in the incident, why even put it on Redmen.com. I have no feelings about Mike Rice one way or the other, but what you did does not seem fair.

That's because I shared the link, then read the article and edited my post and said it doesn't sound like his fault. I don't want to open up the board to bashing him I just thought I'd share the link, sorry.

Lets get off Rice the guy needs a break Hope one day wounds heal and for forgotten and Mike gets a chance to coach again He did noT kill anyone!

I have nothing against Mike Rice and ai hope he does well going forward. Also, based on what is described in the article, it sounds like he didn't do anything wrong. Nonetheless, it is a basketball related story. I don't thing there is anything wrong or malicious in Jack posting a link to the article. It is a legitimate topic for this forum.

FWIW, my brother was at the game scouting for another Shore Conference HS and said the singling out of Rice was intentional and ridiculous He said, and as the article states, literally hundreds of people reacted to the call and the ref singled Rice out from 25 yards away. We both (my brother and I) know the ref involved very well and while not a bad official we both feel he has big time rabbit ears. Just an observation and maybe not relevant, I have been at several Point Pleasant games and I have never heard Rice say anything at any of them.

Rice may be innocent in this case but this kind of publicity is harmful at a time when he is trying to repair his image and get back into the coaching ranks.

I would think that many people who read the article thought that was merely indicative of Rice's demeanor and thought "same old Rice".

Honestly, this article should never have been written. It's pretty clear he did nothing wrong, so no need to give him bad press.

Thanks for an on the scene report of the incident

Coached my friend's daughter in a basketball camp in Jersey. When my buddy told me I obviously asked if one of the drills was to dodge basketballs thrown at her. He said he was the nicest guy and both him, his wife and daughter loved him.

I don't disagree at all but I think Rice got a raw deal from Day One at RU. As I stated when it came to light every coach I ever player for did similar things or worse. I realize it is a different world but not neccessarily for the better. Some things are better no question, but the "sensitivity" and political correcrtness attached to almost everything said or done is just out of control IMO.
